    German/American Wheatbeer

This weekend's brewing is to include a wheat beer (I have been given some heather, so I may do a fraoch too). I don't like the German clovey type yeast flavour and I'm not too keen on the overly citrus American hops so I'm doing a hybrid which I have named a Hamburger Wheat (do you see what I...

    New Kegorator Built

It's taken a while but I've finally got my keg system up and (almost) running. I had a couple of problems with hose connections along the way but these have been resolved and all was going really well until I hooked up my CO2. Basically, my regulator is goosed :-?. It doesn't actually regulate...

    Dispensing taps/towers

I'm looking for a tower or bench fixed taps for my new corny keg setup. I'm using an under-counter fridge and want to put the tap on the counter top above. This one http://www.the-home-brew-shop.co.uk/acatalog/2-Tap-Beer-Tap-Tower-1.html#.VpDrY92QGrU is the only one I've seen so far. Has...

    It's been a busy Christmas

Fruits of my labours over the last couple of weeks. A full batch of my "Vera" Bitter, a 10 litre attempt at a Hobgblin clone, and a 10 litre Barley Wine. Kölsch next weekend I think.

    Yeast for English Barley wine?

I'm planning on a small 10l batch of barley wine this weekend. The only yeast I have in that will get anywhere near the suggested 9.6% is a packet of S-05. As it's only a small batch do you think one pack will do as this is all I have.

Will changing the yeast make much of a difference?

I'm putting on a brew of my stock bitter today. I've previously used S 04 but have just realised I haven't got any in:doh:. Would it make a huge difference if I swapped in some Wilkos Gervin yeast that I have? I've never used it before so am not sure if it's any good in the first place...

    Kölsch question

I put on a batch of Kölsch about 2 weeks ago using the Greg Hughes recipe and the Wyeast 2565 Kölsch yeast. Although it appears to have finished as it's been down at 1012 for the last few days, the Krausen hasn't gone away at all and it smells a bit eggy. Having said that it tastes...

    AG#s 4 & 5

Been a bit lazy and not written up my last 2 brew days so am bunging them together in one thread. AG #3 was done on 23rd August. I decided after my full batch brew of the HBC Hobble Wobble kit the previous week, that I would do a small batch of about 10litres with some grain I had left over...

    Hobble Wobble brew day

Back to brewing after a short lay off. Today I put on the Homebrew Company Hobble Wobble all grain kit using my new Electrim plastic boiler and big BIAB bag. It's the first large all grain brew I've done so it was a bit of a learning curve in terms of equipment and potential pit falls. The mash...

    Couple of quick questions.

I did my second AG yesterday, the Graham Wheeler TT Landlord clone. I used brewmate to reduce the recipe down to 10 Litres. Everything went well, no major mishaps but the expected SG was around 1041 and I actually got 1053. I got my other half to read the hydrometer just to check. I lost quite...

    Muntons Handcrafted American IPA

Has anyone done this kit yet? Can't find it in the reviews. I've just bought one after a wee taste at my LHBS. It was lovely with a real fresh hoppy citra taste which wasn't too overpowering. Sold me on it anyway. Will let you know how I get on. Wasn't intending on buying anything except a 15L...

    Homebrew Saturday

Another Saturday, another day of all things homebrew. So today I put my Evil Dog into minikegs and bottles. It's been in the FV for 3 weeks, has had hop tea bag additions and has cleared relatively well - tastes like rocket fuel at the moment, very hoppy rocket fuel. It came out at 7.6% even...

Stepping into AG...in a small way

Decided to have a go at a 5l batch of all grain thanks to Clibit's excellent thread (HERE). So into a pan of water at 75c I stirred 1Kg of Maris Otter pale malt and ( just to be different), 50g of crystal malt. I used a cardboard box lined with an old duvet to hold the temp up and mashed for...

    Fridge question

Ok so this maybe a really stupid question but, I have a small larder freezer doing nothing in the garage. Would it be possible to convert it to a temperature controlled fermentation chamber in the same way as I've seen others do with a fridge?:wha:

    Busy Brewing Day

Busy, but satisfying day of beer today. My first brew has been bottled and I've set off my 2nd as I didn't see the point of cleaning my FV and not reusing it. The 1st is the St Peter's Ruby Red Ale which was surprisingly simply to set up and after 24hrs was really active, even at a steady 18...

    Hello from Bury

Evening all. This is my first post about my first batch. My other half has bought me a starter kit full of brewing equipment and I have cleaned and sterilised everything and started a batch of St Peters Ruby Red Ale. ( having decided that the Evil dog that I have also received may need a little...
