    The MaltMother

A couple of little tweaks: Stainless camlocks added to remove the brass connectors Out with the grain bag, in with the filter plate for the malt pipe. Hoping these upgrades will be an improvement. Last mod will probably be adding eyelets to the outside of the malt pipe to use my ceiling...

    Temperature controller choice

I'm using an Inkbird ITC-100VH, you can set either % of power or target temp. Works great

    The MaltMother

Irish stout (with a cheeky extra) Mashing in: New recirculation setup: Brewdog keeping an eye on temps: 70% pale 20% flaked barley 10% roast barley 50g northern brewer - simple recipe really. Was shooting for 1.043 but ended up at 1.038 and two litres over volume. Turned the boil power...

CO2 Woes. There's got to be an easier way!

I got a 6.35kg refill today for £27 no issues, is there supposed to be a shortage?

Popped to Dark Rock brewing for some ingredients and ended up coming home with a hop spider for the MaltMother

    The MaltMother

Hi all, Unfortunately I have not been brewing much lately, I bought a VW van during lockdown and spent the last 18 months stripping it out and converting it into a camper, took up so much of my time that I was unable to focus on anything else! Fast forward to today and all of the...

Making an all in one system

Watch this space - the MaltMother is being resurrected from the parts bin, having a few upgrades and will be entering service shortly! But you are definitely correct, it would be better just to buy a grainfather in the first place! 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣

    Who's Brewing tomorrow?

I've just thrown this recipe together for tomorrow, need to do a lightning fast turnaround for Christmas Day: Normally can blitz a 9 day turnaround from grain to glass, god bless temperature controlled fermentation.

    Who's Brewing tomorrow?

Sorry, only just seen this message. Here's my version: Ignore the Epsom Salts, you'd have to calculate your own water profile additions. I'd probably go for much less crystal malt next time, maybe down to 0.1kg, came out too dark. But taste-wise, I thought it was pretty close. The more honey...

    Sabro recipe ideas please?

Hi, slightly steered away from the original plan on this one - went for Nelson Citra and Sabro. Also upped the Sabro dry hop (keg hop) to around 35% - this beer was very tasty. Used Vermont IPA yeast. Relatively not highly hopped but that Sabro does take over, it's a lovely hop. Cleaned out my...

    BIABasket

I'm not using that setup right now, I still have it just in case I want to use it again in the future. It's made from a Bergland 33 ltr stockpot inside a 50 ltr pot. Used a Qmax to make some large holes and fitted stainless legs to raise it above the elements. I did replace the stainless...

    Hello from Halesowen

Hello from Wolves too! Dark Rock is a handy shop, always good to be able to get Nelson sauvin from there, one of my favourite hops.

    Sabro recipe ideas please?

I'm trying to plan a mosaic Citra sabro blend for Wednesday's brew day - thanks for the heads up about Sabro. Will plan for 33%ish each for whirlpool and try 25% sabro dry hop

    Greg Hughes Honey Ale

I'm currently drinking my honey ale - went for calcium around 85ppm, sulphate 100ppm chloride 50ppm with 0.5kg honey added two days into fermentation - lovely honey flavour to the beer. No honey added during boil.

    Fermentation Vessel

It's a good plan - over in Oz, they're 80 AUD each, which is around £45 GBP. In the UK they're retailing around £95-100 GBP. Have you added a sampling port to yours?
