    Breaking news

Seen on BBC News this morning that Tesco's were limiting customers to 3 iceberg lettuces due to poor harvests. Bought 1 in Aldi a couple of days ago and it was a nearly a whopping £1.50. An alternative is spinach - good for you as well.

    Detol and knockers

I have a twin lever capper and it works well on Bulmers bottles as they have a deep ridge at the top, which the capper grips underneath. I have had to lubricate the mechanism though, as it became very stiff to get off after capping and I nearly lost a few bottles because I haven't got three...

Why do you brew your own beer?

I started because the thought of experimenting with flavours appealed to me, so got the missis to buy me a starter kit last Christmas. Joined the forum and have built a brew box and brew fridge, started making AG and got some mini kegs and party tap all from the advice. Like to read up and make...

    Kits, or hops and grain?

I have done a few 'Festival' kits in the last year and they are pretty good but cost around £25. I started off my 'brewing career' with a Razorback IPA before moving to AG. I tend to do kits more as a quick fix as I get 23ltr from one as opposed to 9ltr from AG. The kit then gives me chance...

    as green as they come

Welcome Scrumpy. I grow rhubarb on my allotment and there's always too much to eat. I put some in a batch of all grain beer but yet to taste the spoils of my labour. I think I'll give the wine a go next time - first time for everything.

    First Time Brewer

Welcome to the forum. I have put 8 brews behind me now (3 were kits though) and can safely say that all the AG ones have all been done differently and error strewn in some form or another but they have all turned out ok. I'm sure yours will be fine too. :thumb:

    First All Grain Brew

You could always multiply up - 1 teaspoon is near enough 6ml so that would do 4 litres of water. :thumb:

hey lads I lost my AG virginity last night

Stigman, your now on a one way road with no way to turn back. :thumb: I have 2 AG's bottled but still not tasted them yet. Gonna be a couple of weeks before the first has conditioned, but I've got some kit beer that I'm able to drink in the meantime which is helping with the waiting.

Sunday trading hours, should shops open for longer? [Poll]

I've worked over 30 years for businesses which supply supermarkets and it's these that mainly dictate when people work because of their demands for their customers. Ironically we are the the customers so it's ultimately our own fault that working all hours God sends is the norm for businesses. I...

    Passing The Time of Day

Had a great day & will be able to enjoy the spoils in a few months time as well. What more could anyone want.:drink:

    Passing The Time of Day

Finished brewing after 4 hours!!! Must admit, it went a bit easier this time - much more composed and with a few additional items to help me along the way, a bit less stressful. Have noted a couple more things to get yet though, and finally getting to grips with 'BrewMate' after playing with it...

    Passing The Time of Day

Just been thinking, what would the pro's and con's be of leaving the hops in the wort while it ferments. The reason I ask is I'll be using my syphon tube on my wort chiller and it won't be sterile. Don't really want to start sterilising it after chilling and leave the wort open to the elements...

    Passing The Time of Day

    1. I'll give it a go but I do like to listen to Wyatt & Darren through the day. 2. Thanks. 3. Thanks again.

    Passing The Time of Day

The missus is at the caravan until Easter. I'm on 4 days off, at home listening to Planet Rock (loud) making my second all grain brew - bliss.

    New from South Cheshire

Welcome to the forum. You've probably already seen/read clibits ag thread: http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=51779 . I jumped in to AG after 2 kits and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Seems like a lot of work at first for 7 pints but it has yet to be tasted. Next time I'm...

Hi all new and keen to learn

It's a bit like having a new-born, being kept up all night - mind you, this brewing thing will take over your life just like kids do. Welcome to the forum mate.

    First ever brewday

I'm hoping that's the case with my first AG. Not much sign of anything happening in my homemade FV.

    First AG Attempt

Yeah, I think I'll keep it simple though but probably up the volume as looking back it seemed like a lot of effort for only 5L. Mind you, I still have to taste it yet so from what I've read its probably worth it.
