    Corny Bottling Help

Thanks - wasn't completely sure the bottling wand stick would be the right size, but glad to hear it is, that certainly makes life easy.

    Corny Bottling Help

Thanks- the cane looks like a good solution. I suppose the internal diameter of the picnic tap must be 10mm then - which helps!

    Corny Bottling Help

Hi, I'm planning on bottling from my corny by attaching a racking cane directly to my picnic tap and filling bottles at very low pressure, using the bung method to burp CO2. Can't do a full beergun / bottle CO2 purging setup just now, but i get the impression, the above method should be...

    Summer Hop Experiment

Well, this turned out fine, but nothing special. As with both batches of beers with Oats that i have done, they have improved hugely with age, getting much more balanced over time. The hops may have been a bit old or my dry hopping not very effective, because there weren't really any...

    Summer Hop Experiment

shhhh you'll give the game away ;) This is now brewed successfully. My FG was 1045, so slightly short of the 1047, but my 30kg bag of malt is probably now 6 months+ old, so may have lost some efficiency. In the end i upped the bittering addition a bit with 25 grams of old Pioneer 10% AA hops...

    Summer Hop Experiment

I should be getting paid for malt miller hits! They are no longer for sale, but he does usually have something on there going cheaply. Ok, i'll up the bittering, and then just shove my 50 gms to 0 mins, with the 50gms dry hop. If it tastes of nothing, i'll bang the other 100gms in for a few...

    Summer Hop Experiment

Malt Miller were selling Summer 5%AA hops at £1 per 100gms, so i've got 200 grams to use and am planning to experiment. I've recently had success with a balanced OAT IPA, so i think the Summer hops will lend a nice aroma to a fairly mild beer. I'm thinking: 15ltr batch / 22 ltr boil...

Has anyone got a Sharps Wolf Rock Clone recipe

Oh hang on, a mate has a glass as well - that might be the same then. It's a beer that lets the malty / alcoholic character come through more than hops, so won't be for everyone. It's also dangerous after a few pints :-?

Has anyone got a Sharps Wolf Rock Clone recipe

It is great on tap. I'll look into sharps bottle conditioned beers and use that as a starting point.

    First Oatmeal IPA

20% oats will be absolutely fine. Wouldn't the carapils and oats both add body though? If that's the case it might be overkill. As for oats, same as you, i scoured the internet, but there isn't a huge amount of info out there, but the long and short is that you can use basic flaked oats...

    Oatmeal IPA

Looks interesting! How is the high IBU / Oat interaction? I imagine the oats balance it out quite nicely.

Has anyone got a Sharps Wolf Rock Clone recipe

Google hasn't thrown up much, just wondering if there are any recipes out there, or if anyone has given it a whirl?

    Cheapest brew

AG = quick and cheap. If you can cope with working with smaller batches, i.e. 10-15ltr target for the fermenter, the boil and mash warm up times are greatly reduced, and it becomes much more practical in terms of what sort of boiler you can work with. 3-4 hours is comfortably doable. You...

Temperature controlled beer fridge for sale

I was looking for one just like this, but sadly you're too far away and I've just bought a fridge of the same size to convert. Just replying to say, I fitted mine in a 5 door 2004 Honda civic with the seats down without a problem if that's any help to anyone considering this.

How long does beer keep for?

You can keep it for years if your sanitisation is good. I wouldn't worry about getting ill as a result, give it a go and if it tastes bad, steer clear, if not, you've got some vintage home brew!

Chinook / Fuggles / Goldings SMaSH

What was your final recipe Doglaner? Gotta love Chinook. Once you've experimented with the recipe, you can really appreciate the flavour that it imparts. Having played around with a few versions, I found the best additions to be (10ltr batch) 5g @ 60, 7g @ 15 and 7g@ FO. Really smooth, but you...

    Whatever happened to patience?

I think you will find that most people know that it is better to age beer for longer, whether in FV or keg, but unless as Graz said, you have a critical mass of enough beers to drink /try, then a lot will always get consumed before it's truly ready. The only way to remedy is to make sure...

    unfloculated yeast

Hi, For my last brew, and the current brew i have in the fermenter, I have ended up with a lot of unfloculated yeast floating on the surface and in the body of the beer, despite fermentation having finished. I bottled the first one thinking the yeast would settle in the bottles, but three...

    Barleywine v1

Well, this reached an FG of 1018, so more or less bang on 10%. I left it to mature in the primary for around 4 weeks in total, then bottled, with some priming sugar (half a teaspoon per bottle). No additional yeast was added. To see how this was maturing after a good three-four weeks in the...

2016 Hop Harvest highest in 7 years

It seems best to buy hops at the experimental stage, before they really hit popularity (like citra). Anyway hopefully some of the savings will be passed on to the little guys  If anyone is struggling to see the article, if you search through google and access it that way, you don't get...
