Life of beer - with and without sediment

A little question I've been pondering. Normally, if I brew a batch to dispense from a pressure barrel (King Keg), I fill the barrel straight from the primary FV, prime it with a sugar solution and leave it to condition in the warm, then to clear in the cold before consuming it. I get sediment in...

Brains Merlin's Oak and Longdog Lamplight Porter

Was out scoring beers with the local CAMRA guys last night and came across 2 beers that really hit the spot in a big way, such that they deserve a mention here. Brains Merlin's Oak 4.3%, a reddy-brown ale with all sorts of flavours going on. Traces of nuts, oats, treacle, perhaps a bit of...

    AG 3 & 4 - Landlord clone and repeat AG2

Decided on a brewday on Saturday. Figured that a double brew would be ideal as : 1) My beer supply is waning. I think it must be evaporating. 2) I figured that without duplicating the setting up and cleaning up time, 2 brews would be a more efficient use of time. AG 3 was to be a...

    AG#2 - Elderflowers?.. Hmmm

Well, with AG#1 (Rauchbier) http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=24471 bottled and maturing (and tasting damned fine at the moment), I started to think about AG#2. Lovely though the Rauchbier is turning out, it's clearly not going to be a session beer and I'm determined that it...

    Fotek SSR Failure

I've built myself a 2 channel PID controller with a view to using one channel for the HLT and a second for a HERMS/RIMS setup in the future. One channel has been extensively used during testing and it controlled the HLT during my recent AG#1 brew without missing a beat. I came to experiment...

    AG#1 Rauchbier

I've previously only brewed a few kits, with reasonable, but not stellar, results. Some would say that some perseverance would have paid off here, and, no doubt, that's true, but I've always had an urge to get into AG brewing and the flexibility that unlocks. I also quite enjoy building my own...

    New member

Just a quick post to say Hi. Been lurking here for a few months whilst gradually amassing plumbing bits, picnic coolers, burco elements, etc. Got AG#1 out of the way yesterday (what a day! more later) so thought it was time to crawl out of the woodwork and join up. Cheers, kevin
