    Caxton Real Ale

Ok it's in the bottle! Quite simple really - got exactly 40 bottles and it taste pretty good. Conditioning for 4 weeks till I try it. Picked up a Woodfordes Wherry from Wilkinsons so I'll kick that off next week. Happy Punter!

    Caxton Real Ale

Second reading 1.004 temperature correction gives 1.003 Estimate this will be somewhere round 4% + or - 0.5%. Lovely colour and has noticeable cleared since even yesterday Bottling looking good for Friday. Since I made this with plain old granulated sugar I'm tempter to prime with that too...

    Caxton Real Ale

My very first brew and today I took my first hydrometer having forgotten to take an OG reading (stupid newbie!) It reads 1.004 so I'll see where it's at over the next 2 days. It's been in the fv for 11 days and I was always planning on bottling after 14. The hydro reads 0.998 in water of a...

Virgin brewer - Caxtons Real Ale

Thanks so much for your help! Makes perfect sense about the tap, now I know I don't have to worry about openning her up to get a ladle full for my trial jar, a tap seems unneccessary. So a week on Friday I'll take a reading and if it's constant for 3 days I'll bottle it - sounds right? I'm...

Virgin brewer - Caxtons Real Ale

Hi guys, Got this started last Friday 11th May. Looks good with a good head on it at the moment. I'm going to leave it 2 weeks in the fv before thinking about anything. I do have some questions though, as I don't have an airlock, just a tight fitting lid, where is all the CO2 going? Most on...

    Newbie with a question :)

Hi, just kicked off my first brew after being given a can of Caxton Real Ale as a gift. Very excited! Got my stuff from Wilko's and am already regretting using granulated sugar instead of brewing sugar, but hey–ho, I'll see what happens! My big question is: Can anyone give me a pros and cons...
