Hi, Have just been given as part of Bday present the very useful present of an FV with a tap at the bottom which will make racking easier. When I fit the tap do I need to put some sort of oil or grease on it i.e. vaseline? Also given a Festival golden Stag kit :D Do I need to bottle this or...

    15 year old beer kit!

At the weekend my father in law insisted he give me an old beer keg (which was actually good quality) as well as a bitter kit from Boots which he reckoned was 15 years old. He helpfully recommended not using the enclosed yeast sachet! Anyone reckon this beer kit will still be worth brewing? :?

If you are brewing St. Peter's ruby red ale

Ok so opened first bottle after 3 weeks and 5 days - couldn't wait any longer! Tastes decent at the moment though smells a bit homebrewish I am sure it will improve - needs to be good by Christmas. Anyway my question is about the head. The kit instructions say half a teaspoon of sugar and I put...

    Plastic bottles from supermarket

Hi has anyone used the plastic 1 litre PET bottles you can get from the supermarket for bottling their brew? If so are they strong enough for this purpose? Usually juice bottles, ribena etc, they look and feel as strong as the PET bottles I bought previously.

Emergency! - hope some of you are around

Yes jonewer thanks, will do that with the barrel, but what about the beer right now?! Rob, do you mean I can just tap the beer from the keg now into PET bottles (I have some) without sugar (as the beer is already carbonated) and it will keep ok in them till the weekend?

Emergency! - hope some of you are around

Do you mean the black rubber band around the outside of the tap? That's where it's leaking from. Or shall I just unscrew the lid very briefly?

Emergency! - hope some of you are around

Last Friday I half filled my keg with some Ritchie's simply lager (bottled rest). Instructions said store in warm for 5 days then move out to the cold to clear. I fell ill on Monday and have been pretty ill all week but now recovering. Actually went into hospital Weds night. Anyway to cut a long...
