Elderflower Wine - 85 Year Old Recipe

As I can see five elder trees in flower from my front door it seems wrong not to make a batch - so I've just started one today following a recipe my Grandad wrote in 1938... 1 pint elderflowers - picked off all but the thinnest stems 1 gallon water 3.5 lbs white sugar (one of his elderberry...

Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD!!!

I've been having an odd day today - got a new 10l bucket and needed to do something with it - some people might say I'm mad but I just had to do this... They say you can make wine from practically anything... Chop them up then add some chopped raisins and a handful of flaked...

Had an idea but not sure just how insane it is...

One of my brews stalled a while back. I bottled it anyway without using any priming sugar (seemed dangerous for a brew stalled at 1.016). I did the bottling a month ago. I cracked one of the bottles open today. It hasn't cleared at all and still tastes strongly of yeast. The thing is that it is...

Trying to find a wheat beer kit...

Like the subject says: I want to have a go at brewing a wheat beer but I only want to brew about 10 litres - much as I like wheat beer, it doesn't like me so I don't want to end up with too much! Does anybody know of a kit for such a short brew length? Ideally I'd one without any added flavours...

    Unexpected brewday...

I decided not to do any more brewing until the new year - under no circumstances would I be tempted to start another brew... ...which is why I've just pitched the yeast into a Coopers Stout kit! It's addictive this brewing lark! In with the tin I used 1kg of BKE and 500g of...

Into bottles or down the drain?

Help Please!!! My second brew has been a nightmare. Geordie Bitter kit with extra hops, 1kg of BKE and 500g of Medium DME. I started it on 7th November and the OG was 1.042. It happily bubbled away for a week then the fermentation stuck at 1.020. I gave it gentle stirs, I checked the temp, I...

    Tropical take on a WoW

Bought some more juice from Asda today and started off another two gallons. 1l WGJ 500ml Pineapple Juice 500ml Orange and Mango Juice 800g Sugar Mug of strong tea glycerin, pectolaise and nutrient half sachet of yeast The second gallon was made much the same but using red grape juice instead...

    Yeast nutrient

My current brew has decided to 'stick' at 1.020 (been there for the last week). I tried the gentle stir a few days ago and that's had no effect. Temperature is at around 18c so don't think that's the problem (my wines are in the same cupboard and they're happily bubbling away). I'm thinking of...

Geordie Bitter kit - after suggestions for 'improvements'

I've picked up a Geordie Bitter kit from Tesco for less than £3 - it's going to be only my second brew. I've not got any sugar or spray malt to make it with yet, so just wondering what suggestions more experienced brewers would make before I go shopping for fermentables.

    Newbie first kit question.

I'm getting a bit confused by all the different advice I'm finding so I'm hoping you wonderful people can help... My first ever brew is happily fermenting; it's only three days in so I've got plenty of time. Some people have said that we newbies should follow the kit instructions exactly for...

    Hi everybody.

Hello from Berkshire. I just got back into home wine-making last week after a break of several years (in truth it's more like two decades :? ). I called into my local home-brewing shop on Monday for some basic wine-making supplies and found myself leaving an hour later with a 25l fermenting...
