    Question re Hops?

Advice please.....I am reading an American book, Dave Miller's Home Brewing Guide and have just attempted my first AG brew from the recipe section which is a British IPA (5 US Gallon). The recipe called for 13 AAU of Fuggle, Goldings or Norther Brewer Hops for Bittering and then 2oz of Goldings...

    Newbie

My hydrometer broke 10 kits ago and never used one since so would not worry? I leave my kits in the FV for 2+ weeks which I have always found to be long enough to finish them off.

Have I just bought a Ford Transit with a Fiesta engine?

Thanks for all the advice, its from a decent home brew supplier, no thermostat or cut out switch and made for the job although seems a lot of liquid for one small element. Seems I just need to leave it for longer and it will get there in the end? I hear whats said about the additional...

Have I just bought a Ford Transit with a Fiesta engine?

Just getting in to AG brewing and went for a Stainless Steel 56 Ltr Electric Boiler with a 2400w electric heating element. Just tried to boil 30l of water and despite insulating the walls/base of the pot have been unable to get a 'rolling boil' just achieving what looks like the air block in a...

Muntons Premium Cellar Wine Kits at Wilko for £9

I think I just got a bargain at wilko and picked up a couple of the Muntons Premium Cellar Wine Kits for £9 each. Each has 5 litres of grape juice in them and as I got them so cheap I was thinking of doubling up the kits to make a better wine? Would this work and should I double up on yeast...

    Bored - What to do?

Riding a pedal cycle drunk has no implications for your driving licence...Trust me. Clearly there are other risks involved cycling drunk and playing with other traffic that's bigger, faster and harder than you but you know what they are. ;)

First Run At Kegging in Cornie, Bitter/Metal Taste??

As sated, keg almost empty but taste getting really heavy so I decided to pop it open and see what's going on! Only a litre of so left in the bottom but I saw towards the top/middle of the keg there was a brown rust like residue where you would expect to see tide lines. This was raised as you...

    Beer/cider bottles

Wife went 'off it' but I went to the local bottle bank on a weekend and asked people if I could see what they were chucking out. I figure the bottles would be sterilised and cleaned and ended up getting everything I needed in a couple of trips. Other option is to buy smart price supermarket...

First Run At Kegging in Cornie, Bitter/Metal Taste??

Thanks for the quick response. Hard to describe but I don't think its soda syrup. I stripped the keg right down and saw the seals were all new and posts etc. were very clean. Although I did use some kitchen Stainless Steel cleaner (Astonish Oven and Cookware Cleaner) I thoroughly rinsed the...

First Run At Kegging in Cornie, Bitter/Metal Taste??

After a good few successes with Coopers Lager kits (European, Pilsner, Wheat) I decided to up my game and buy a Cornie Keg. I brewed a Coopers Canadian Blonde as normal BUT decided to chuck in a 12g Teabag of Bulldog Challenger Finishing Hops. I put the bag in boiling water for 10 minutes as...

    Nothing happening

My plastic FV is new and I didn't get any air passing through my airlock until I used electricians PVC tape wrapped around the outside of the bucket around the seal. This works well for me and gives the reassurance of seeing bobbles through the airlock!

    Woodford's Wherry

This is actually not bad, very strong in alcohol and not as clear in the bottle as I hoped but getting better with age. As it was a cheap kit and I was playing around adding sugar I decided to bottle in 2l plastic Coke bottles which have worked out fine.

    Red Wine Kits - Worried

Forget the above, sugar now settled right down and grape juice added body, really good brew. For info dryness caused by yeast eating all the sugar, no worries though as you just add more as stated above. Hope this helps others with same issues? I put 3 table spoons of white sugar in to 23...

    Newby, initial help and hi

So, lets get this right....... you leave them in a warm place for a couple of days or a week after bottling and priming, this lets the remaining yeast process the sugar you added at priming and creates CO2. Then leave the bottles in a cooler environment such a a cellar/garage for three months...
