    Fizzy red wine

I have made a six bottle Beaverdale Red kit. The first four were lovely. On opening the fifth bottle and tasting it, it was a little fizzy (fermenting?), so was the sixth bottle. I don't like fizzy wine and don't think it's good for you anyway. I have poured the two bottles into a demijohn. Is...

    When to top up demijohn

One of my Wow's has almost finished, I have already topped it up to the 4.5 litre mark but there is a lot of sediment on the bottom. When I rack it off do I need to top it up again? Or will this weaken it? Cheers Brian

    Oak chips

I started my first WoW yesterday but made the mistake of using yeast which was past its sell by date and nothing is happening. I just bought some yeast from Wilko's and hope this works. I have some oak chips which was unused from a wine kit. Is it worth putting them in? if so, when is the best...

WineBuddy Sauvignon Blanc White Wine 30btl kit

Have been looking at one of these kits (WineBuddy Sauvignon Blanc White Wine Homebrew Kit - 30 Bottles) which seem reasonable at around £22. What seems strange though is the amount of sugar that needs to be added, 4kg. Does that mean the grape juice isn't very good or what? The kits I have used...

    Wilko's Pino Grigio

I have been thinking of getting one of Wilko's Pino Grigio kits but having just read the reviews of the kit on this site I am not too sure. Has anyone else made it? Or is it worth getting the Chardonnay kit instead. Money is a bit tight and would normally buy Beaverdale or Munton's but cannot...

    Scum on top

My white wine (from a kit) which finished fermenting yesterday has a sort of scum on the top. This isn't normal is it? I have no idea of what to do now. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers Brian

    Wine stopped fermenting?

I have a Beaverdale Sauvignon Blanc which is now in its fifth day. It appears to have stopped fermenting and is quite cloudy. The blurb that came with the kit states that fermentation will be complete in about 10 - 15 days. I have been using a brew belt about halfway up. The airlock water is...

Bag in a Box wine storage

Has anyone used one of the 'Bag in a Box' methods of storing wine? As someone who is returning to home winemaking after many years the 'hobby' has moved forward in leaps and bounds. Bottling is a good idea but I am drawn to the bag method. How long would the wine keep in a bag? The commercial...
