    conditioning time

I keep mine in the warm for 2 weeks, just to make sure! I keep the bottles at the same temp I fermented at.

    Fermentation fridge

I use a 60w heater too. My fridge is very similar to yours. It has held temperatures perfectly even during the coldest nights. Mine's in a detached garage. A 60w heater should be fine for you. I made a wooden shelf to support the fv, with slats to allow the heat to rise through to the rest of...

    Fermentation fridge

Looks like a great find!! :thumb: Think you'll just have to plug it in and hope for the best. Probably best to test it while you're able to keep an eye on it just in case...seems almost too good to be true!! :D If it works though...happy days!!!!

    Beer conditioning tablets....

Spot on! :D Only a few days to go though..,

    Beer conditioning tablets....

Yes I think you're right. They have different effects with different pills. I think in general they say that you can drink, but if you are ill enough to be on antibiotics, then you should do your body a favour and lay off it until you're better! I'm running with that! And my stocks are not...

    Beer conditioning tablets....

Has anyone heard of these??? They're brilliant. :D They allow your beer to condition undisturbed. :thumb: What are they?.....bloody antibiotics  Was just trying to look on the bright side of things during my 7+ days of forced detox!!

    Fridge/Kegerator

The stc 1000 won't let your fridge go any cooler as it will still be governed by the temperature setting of the fridge thermostat. The stc setting will be irrelevant once set below the fridge thermostat setting as the fridge will always cut out at, in your case, 8C. If you bypass the thermostat...

    Kit = Commercial beer-a-like info

Can't comment on if it resembles any commercial ales...but the Festival Golden Stag Summer Ale seems to have got great reviews. I'm going to try that one next! :thumb:

    when to stir?

I do that too, but also give it a good stir afterwards. I tested the OG after adding the water from a height, which was 1.030 (for the Woodfordes Wherry). Thought it was a bit low so gave it a good stir too. This brought the OG up to 1.041. So it would appear that adding the water from a height...

    when to stir?

You should only be stirring when making up the wort to aerate, or if you have a problem with a stuck fermentation?? Once in the FV, best course of action is leave well alone!!

    Water hardness at 427ppm

Just bookmarked this topic following that info from Aleman. I'm in the very early stages of planning to move into AG brewing and was researching my water quality only yesterday. The info I got was a bit (a lot!!) confusing to say the least!! This has helped me out a lot. Thanks...

Cal. Conneisseur White Zinfandel kit help!!

Many thanks for your help. That fills me with a bit more confidence! I have stabilised the wine, so re-fermentation wont be an issue...just hoping I've degassed it enough now for the finings to be effective. I suppose only time will tell on this one!! I don't think I will use the...

Cal. Conneisseur White Zinfandel kit help!!

Thanks for the reply. Definitely has finished fermenting. Has stayed at 0.994 for the past 4 or 5 days. I bit the bullet and added the wine sweetener (100 ml). The other half and I sat there for ages trying to decide if it was sweet enough or not, but when the wine isn't ready I find it hard...

Cal. Conneisseur White Zinfandel kit help!!

I am coming towards the end of making a 30 bottle kit, and over the past couple of days have been stirring the wine to degass. The instructions say to stir at least 6-8 times over a 2 day period, which I have done. Every time after stirring the airlock bubbles for a minute or 2, which I assume...

    Newbie advice

I have yet to find a homebrew shop in that area!! I believe there is one in Maidstone and Faversham and I think Ashford, but nothing around Dartford? Would be handy if there was as I work in Swanley!! I've bought everything online so far, but will get to a shop soon!!

    Newbie advice

I would ignore the time given on the instructions. Do you have a hydrometer? This is what you will need to test if fermentation has finished. You need to get the same reading over a 3 day period, which will show its done. I leave my kits for a good 14 days in the primary fv. It does it no...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

Whoops!!! Never mind...it had pretty much finished anyway. Luckily this one has turned out lovely. Crystal clear and tastes nice!! Cheers for clarifying that though. Won't do that again!

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

I did a WOW recently which did just that. I believe it is the fruit pulp. As you say, it is impossible to get it to sink! After advice from Chippy Tea I just racked it into a clean DJ and let it continue fermenting. It has now finished and is clear as a bell!! You may need to top up afterwards...
