If you have a hop strainer fitted you need them loose for it to work properly. Good luck!

I throw mine in loose...always have done...but they make such a mess as of late that I'm thinking of getting a large muslin bag and give it a try.

I'd go for loose too, it's the bed of hops combined with a hop filter that will help retain the worst of the cold break material in the bottom of the boiler and keep it out of your fermenter.

Like the others have said if you have a hop filter then chuck them in loose so the hops help to filter the break material
