Another impromptu brew, the Mrs went out!

We are having a bit of a do in May and I'm worried we won't have enough beer, so am using a kit that's been lying around and doing a mini mash and boiling some hops to knock it into shape, hopefully.

Cheers. Will do. I've had to change the hop bill a bit cos I had less Nelson and Green Bullet than I thought. I've redistributed them a bit and added some Motueka at 5 mins, which I'm very happy about!

Not tried using Nelson yet and was put off after trying a pint of a single hopped ale at last years Reading Beer Festival that tasted like shower gel :-(.

Sounds tasty! I did try to find some Nelson Sauvin a few weeks ago, before quickly realising they were rocking horse poo.

Not all Nelson Sauvin beers taste like shower gel! Try Thornbridge Kipling.

I liked the sound of them too, but my single hop pale ale idea hit a pretty significant stumbling block! And I'm sure they don't taste like rocking horse poo, even if they're just as rare.

And it could be a Norfolk saying. There's lots of odd sayings here, most of them make no sense at all.

Apologies for using up so much space, here, but this is exactly the sort of thing I am aiming at right now.

I went pretty light on the hops cos I want an easily quaffable session beer with this one. Fingers crossed.

Kegged this today in my ancient Boots pressure barrel that some one gave me and has never been used before. Bit nervous! I've no gas and I don't know if the valve works, or what type it is. Looks like it might be the S30 type, possibly. But the beer is for a do next Saturday and it will all get drunk then I think. So I will just use it ghetto style and if all goes ok will see if I can use the valve after that, and get a new valve if not. It's actually tasting good already, I'd drink it happily as it is, straight from the barrel. I added 85g dextrose, hopefully it will carb up a reasonable amount by next Saturday, if not, it's OK as it is, weirdly. Like a beer you get at a beer festival straight from the keg.

It tastes like an AG beer. I'd use the Harvest Pilsner as a base again. Got that for £8.23 from the tesco online sale. The yeast was from Bungle's TTL, the Nelson Sauvin were given me by a mate, so just some MO, crystal and Special B etc and a bit of Green Bullet and Motueka hops, very cheap brew. Probably around £12. Got about 21.5 litres into the keg, and harvested a load of yeast from it too. Happy days!

Got two 10 litre batches to bottle/keg now, not managed to get kegs though, so looks like a bottling session....

Got some gas last night and blasted it in - but it came shooting back out the top! I think I need a new rubber seal, or three.

Nevertheless, this is turning into a very tasty beer. It'll get annihilated on Saturday night, I reckon. Then I can sort the valve. Or should I get it sorted asap?

Any PB gurus out there who can share their valvey knowledge?!
