I've just put on 2 Beaverdale 6 bottle kits, Chateau du Roi and Sauvignon Blanc. Both sets of instructions say to make up to 4.5 at start in 5l vessel but that's right up to the bottom of my glass 4.5 do necks so only leaves 2 inches or so. I made them up to 4l initially but should I have used plastic 5l djs or can I just top up o 4.5l after initial fermentation??? Help please!

You should always fill to the beginning of the shoulder of a DJ to allow for vigorous fermentation, most of us have witnessed what happens when you put too much in, better safe than sorry.

Yes I've been the victim of escaping yeast before with wows even in a 5l plastic dj so I guess I should just ignore that part of the instructions then
