What do people think of this stout recipe? 23 L

Pale 3300g
Wheat 700g
Roast Barley 230g
Chocolate malt 450g
Northdown, Hallertau, Styrian Goldings
Isn't that a lot of roast barley?
Thanks in advance, one and all!

Yes it does seem a lot of Roast Barley - I often brew an Irish Red Ale which I believe is where Beamish came from - also not sure the need for the wheat - attached my recipe for your consideration

Beamish do make a red ale, but the OP is after the stout.

The clone recipe grist is:
68% Pale Malt
20% Flaked Barley
12% Roasted Barley

70/20/10 is fairly standard for a dry stout. Beamish is a bit roastier than others.

In my own recipes I like a mix of chocolate and roasted barley rather than just roasted barley.

If I were you I'd swap the wheat for flaked barley and reduce the chocolate a bit. Something like:

Pale: 3200g
Flaked Barley - 800g
Roasted Barley - 400g
Chocolate - 200g

Should get you in the right gravity and colour range.

Many thanks! Yes, it's the stout I'm after. (Although the red ale might be worth a look!). I was actually worried that this was a bit too much roast barley. But I see you're going for 400g, YF. Looking forward to brewing this soon. Cheers
