Hey guys,

Been trying to get a homebrew shelving combination.

The idea is to have a workstation. On top would be 2 fermenters fermenting. Then underneath a cupboard which contains 2 barrels. For a lot of the time both fermenters would be full as well as both barrels.

Anyone got any ideas of a unit I can buy that would be fine to home the setup in this way?

Had a diy disaster earlier with a spare kitchen wall shelf unit we had as flat pack still lying around the house. Half way through setting it up I realised the gaps in between the shelf would not be big enough to house the barrels. So I modified it by removing 1 of the inner shelves.

3 Hours later and I noticed there is no top shelf for the unit so any chance of having fermenters there at the same time was a no go. Scrapped that idea now :(

A double (2 doors) Kitchen cupboard with a piece of worktop across the top.

Thats what I have.

I store all my grain in the cupboard and have my boiler and Mash Tun on Top.

Try BigDug - on their own web site or ebay or Amazon; good range and good prices. I bought the value workbench for storing my 10 gal set up. Very strong

I have no problem - one of the spare bedrooms houses my fridges, sacks of grain etc and serves as a storage area for my conditioned beers.

As far as FVs, equally no problem - the lounge floor is plenty big enough for the two or three I usually have bubbling away at any one time.

excellent cheers mate.

Seen a decent sized workbench for just £55 on that site, that will be perfect :D

edit:

that look about the right size?

Yep - bought that very one, easy enough to put together with a mallet. Does move a bit - though it is pretty strong. If I was brewing on it I would buy the non economy version or add some extra brackets for rigidity

The only problem for me I think eddie is the FVs wanting to be higher than barrels so i can siphon direct from fv to barrel without moving anything.

rparkera... Might go for the £77 1 then. You think the top of it will mean fvs will be below head level so i can make the fv mix, then lift entire full fv to top shelf without having to strain myself too far?

cheers

It looks sturdier for sure. Like I said I only have the economy version - for storing the Nordics. The top shelves are the sames height as a kitchen work top so I often end up putting the boiler on there. I can see that the £77 version is wider - it wouldn't get into our kitchen!
