Hi there!

I am a beer lover, and luckily I married one too! Growing up and spending our student years in the Netherlands I had the pleasure of having access to the most wonderful Belgian Beers, but also some great Dutch brews, of course.

After moving to the UK in 2011, we got to learn more about all the smaller breweries out here, and have tasted a shedload of great ales and beers over the years, starting to appreciate the smaller breweries and craft beers.

So, this Christmas, my husband and I were given a starting kit (BrooklynBrewShop in collab with the Dutch HEMA) for our first ever home brew attempt. We started yesterday, and are already hooked, and even started looking at a Grainfather, FFS... :-?

But, we have told ourselves we have to have at least a few (read: 10-ish successful brews of our own with the starter equipment we have now (apart from the fact that we need some bigger strainers and pans.... see pics below)

So, yesterday we started with the "Belgian Blond 5%", and are already setting ourselves up for failure / not too brilliant beer, but the idea that our pantry is now a brewery is a-ma-zing!

So hello! Hope to learn a lot here, and to contribute to the forum as an active member. :drunk: We're hoping to be brewing some nice Dutch/Belgian influenced blond/gold ales in the future, and I hope to be able to create an IPA that my husband likes.

Some pics of our first brewing session:

Thanks! And yes, almost all our pans were in use.. But we've already eyed some affordable stock pots on them eBayz to replace them. It was quite.. eeeehm... chaotic! :P

The brew is nice and bubbly this morning (and the straw is getting pretty gross)... Was writing down my grocery list as I was hearing something go 'Gulp... Gulp..' in the pantry... Exciting stuff!

Welcome!

I love my trips abroad to stock up on Belgian & Dutch Brews. More Belgian if i'm honest but Gulpener Korenwolf is Delicous and Hertog Jan do a couple of nice brews too. De Molen are doing some very great beers too..

Hop(e) your beers turn out as expected!

Hertog Jan have some great brews indeed. I enjoy their standard pilsener, but their "Karakter" and "Grand Prestige" are gorgeous!

My favorite Dutch brewery is "De Hemel" in Nijmegen (De Hemel means 'heaven'). It is a small-scale brewery that have some top-notch brews, including their very fresh "Serafijn", and their heavy weight "Nieuw Ligt" (10%).

We're going to visit family in Feb, and really need to stock up on our beers. It's been quite a while since our last one, and there's only a few left at the moment *panic* :-(

+1 for Karakter & Grand Prestige, I'll be staying near valkenswaard for a week in April so will keep an eye out De Hemel if their beers are sold as far south as valkenswaard. A trip to Albert Heijn is compulsory of course

Hemel beers are only sold at the brewery and one shop in the city/town centre, unfortunately ;)
