i plan on starting my blackcurent wine this morning but desperatly need help with this ca
calcualtion please

12 one litre cartons blackcurrent has 27g sugar per 240 mil serving
so 1200 mill divide 240= 50 sevings ,
so 50 servings @27g = 1350g. around 112g per liter

5 x white grape juice 172g per liter x5 =860g

total sugars so far = 1350g +860g = 2210g
i want to make  the wine 16%

moley once told me that If you want a wine of around 16% abv you need a gravity drop of around 118 points, so assuming it's going to ferment out to dryness you should be looking for a net OG of about 100 points (1.100).

You therefore need total sugars of about 275g/litre x 5 = 1375.
thats for a 5litre batch
so 275gx20= 5500g
so i take away from that the sugars i already have 5500-2210=3290g
so if i boil 3290g sugar in 3lites of water i will now have a 20 litre batch of 16% wine
12blackcurrent ,5 white grape,3 water = 20 littes

Sugar calculations are spot on as far as I can see :thumb:

Sounds pretty heavy on blackcurrant though.

You will also have 22 litres in your fermenter because that 3.3kg of sugar will bulk up your liquid volume by 2 litres.

I think I would be inclined to start out with maybe 6 litres each of white or red grape juice and that blackcurrant drink, make the initial volume up to 18 litres, and then add another 2 blackcurrant drink when initial fermentation has quietened down.

ive done the recipe before moley and did a 5 liter batch and the ratio i used then was 1 white grape and 2 blackcurrent but it was a differnent black current and i couldnt remeber the sugar quantities, i just multipled everything by 5 for the above recipe ,but i added the extra 2 blackcurrent on this one . thinking more black current flavour .the missus and her mates absolutly loved it ,
can you tell me how much sugar i neeed to add to recipe to notch it up 1 %
100g per liter = 1% ?
200g per liter = 2%

is that right or have i read it wrong somerwhere
and thanks

I agree with Moley it is a bit Blackcurrent heavy. I would cut back on the Blackcurrent or increase the grape juice to at least 9lt to improve the ratio. I used to use this site to help with sugar calculation: Here
