Hi
I'm nearing the end of my first no chill brew day... struggling to get the hops in the cube.

They are supposed to go in the cube?

Thanks in advance

I put hops in the cube all the time and treat them as 15 min additions.

I always use pellet and just chuck the lot into the fermenter a few days later, trub and all!

I kettle hop additions of, 40 minutes 0 minutes and - 10 minutes. I then transfer this to my no chill container using a funnel however this was tricky because the hops continually blocked the funnel.

As I'm doing stove top boils in a 14l pot at present I had to pour the wort as It doesn't have a bottom tap. I'm thinking ways around this could be to use hop bags in the kettle and remove prior to transfer to the no chill container. Possibly adding only the aroma hops directly to the no chill container.

I dont use a cube to no chill in, I just use an FV covered with cling film. You can only do this for a max of 2 days but I dont want to keep unpitched wort longer than this anyway.

I just jug my wort into the FV (as I also dont have a tap on the kettle) and simply pass it through a sieve first to extract the hops

After my boil i let the wort cool to approx 80 degrees then drain into my cube and then add my pellet hops, leave over night and then pour into my fermenter using a large sieve to catch hop debris. Works fine for me.

Update

My first no chill was an AG ESB which is now 1 week into fermentation. I've just made my first extract brew in which I used first wort hops in a Muslim bag for 30 mins boil time and then removed these at flame out. Flavour/aroma hops I added directly to the "cube" this made transfer to the cube by pouring significantly easier.

Wish I hadn't filled my pot so full.... splashing all over the place

I guess it's all about fine tuning your system.

The motivation for the brew was the Holland and Barrett sale buy one get one half price and some left over fuggles and EKG. Greg Hughes ruby mild
