http://www.brewstore.co.uk/ in Edinburgh.

Very friendly and competitively priced from a quick google when I've been looking for a new purchase.

They do grains and hops as well as all the kits stuff and up and have learn to brew courses.

I've not needed their online services but it looks fair if you order enough.

A bottle dog has just opened but I've not investigated yet - and probably will continue to use brewstore if they're priced equally.

The Homebrew Centre Grimsby, run by Sean and Heather both very knowledgable in all aspects of our hobby. Supplying equipment and ingredients, including their own take on AG kit.

They're both bee keepers too so there's usually fresh local honey for sale
A very friendly couple who are willing to talk beer or just pass the time of day.

I rate them 5/5

I think this is a great idea too as we (me included) can be guilty of using the "alternative" LHBS, and as some threads have mentioned. When they're gone, they're gone. Try asking the nice lady in Bilkos about head retention ...........

I've started to make a conscious choice to go to my local home brew store for everything rather than ordering online. Mind have a change of heart at next Tesco sale but that's another matter!

Was there this morning for some (more!) bottles, carb drops and picked up a coopers Canadian blonde and brew enhancer.

It's a fantastic shop in Glasgow's west
end.

Once there gone there gone! i buy bulk grain from HBC, hops mainly online from where ever but for kit and the rest of the stuff i use these guys lovey people and have plenty of knowledge that you dont get through online sources!

Edit forgot to rank, i will give them 4/5 for the reason sometimes there website shows liquid yeasts in stock however sadly when you visit the shop the one i fancied is out of stock, Quite ironic that the internet site lets them down

I go there too. He mills the grains fresh while you wait. Good ploy as you wander round the shop whilst you're waiting and decide you really need to try the next hop in the alphabet. Recently bought (or had bought for me) a corny setup from there, should be filling it this week

I'd rate it between 4 and 5.

Great thread Manse.

Natures Way is also my local. Full of knowledge and a decent selection.

While I'd give them 5/5 instore I'd only give them 2 Stars for their online presence. Their online shop sucks TBH.

I hope they they read this as I want nothing but success for them.

i did ask about this earlier in the year when something i needed wasnt in stock (well on premises i did want rather a lot or MO mind)

answer was pretty much "we are a retail shop but is sort of expected to have an online presence" so pretty much ring if u wanna check if they have something..which from memory makes sense cause online all stock is at 10

TBF pretty honest reply..and i did get most of what i needed...

and i do like to browse now and again which is kinda limited here...

customer service has always been above and beyond.....

just the little things like saying hello when u walk in....then 10 mins later asking if u are ok......then remembering "u mill your own? dont u?" when i buy grain...

im hardly their best customer

but its nice to support local...

when i bought my first kit way back in 18 what ever...i got it there and i explained what i was after....was advised on options and sold a cheaper version than the generic boxed starter kits that seem to b the norm now..

mind u that was from a bearded bloke and it was natures way ..no house of homebrew back then,,,

lol i think the online element was a rather short printable page of guff...

glad to see them doing well and getting more kit in..

they used to do bottle swaps

**** i feel old

Unfortunately my LHBS is useless. The first time I went there I completely shocked by the lack of knowledge.
I soon found that the local health foodstore near me has a pretty good range of stuff and is willing to order in stuff with a bit of notice. Gary is also pretty good with advice and the odd discount.
I think know I'll make a decision one brew ahead, so Gary can order the stuff in.
I did make the mistake of going to the LHBS as Gary didn't have some grain that I wanted. LHBS had never heard of it.
Unless there happens to be a herd of wild horses roaming around the area there inadvertently drag me there I don't think I'll be going there again.

Mine is not very good either it's brewer bill in coventry market

He sells all the basic equipment, but mostly kits wine kits some coopers kits and muntons kits.. they also look like they have been on the shelf a long time.

He does sell beer enhancer and a couple of dry yeasts (youngs wine US05/ SF04)

I don't remember seeing any extract let alone grains so if I was honest it isn't a shop for me, also expensive too.

The Big Smoke - Sarf ov tha riva:
Last time I was in Balham - a few months back- the speciality beer shop near Sainsbury's sold kits and a few other bits and bobs. They have a website 'We Brought Beer' from which it appears they have another shop at Clapham Junction. Their main product line though is very definitely selling bottles of what I thought was expensive 'craft' beer.

I cycle through both Balham and Clapham on the way home from work. Might have to stick my head in and see what they've got

The shop is fantastic they guys there are always will to help out with info or sourcing items new and used.
They do a bottle swap and a fun competition for a specific brew.
Plus bimonthly they did (or still do) a all grain workshop teaching BIAB and best of all its FREE .

In Exeter I'm fortunate enough to have 2 local shops within a short distance and we also have a Wilko with a decent home brew section. I try to use all the local shops as well as buying some online (prices are irresistable at times!) ... if we don't use them they won't be around for long! The local branch of Lakeland used to have a brewing section but, alas, no longer. Other branches may be worth checking out though!

Quayside Homebrew is located within a Mace convenience store on Exeter Quay. Has a large stock of kits, equipment and some reasonable grains, hops etc. Also has a fruit press available to hire. Advice is freely available and he is more than happy to source and order any specific requirements. 5/5

Cowick St Homebrew is in the St Thomas area of Exeter. Also sells general kitchen equipment. Most of his brewing stock seems to come from Hambleton Bard and he also has a good range of equipment. Grain is a bit expensive in my experience but a really helpful guy. 4/5

Got two I use around Birmingham:

Hamstead Brewing Centre, which sells all types of grain, extract, most hops and loads of equipment.

http://www.hamstead-brewing-centre.co.uk/index.htm

The other is Brew Genie, not big a range of grains, but a massive range of vacuum packed leaf hops.

http://www.brewgenie.co.uk

I use DJ homebrew in longbridge. Been there for as long as I can remember.

Small selection of grain. The old lady in there ( forgive me if she sees this she's 21 ;-) ) is very helpful.

They have quite a range of kits, often have reduced kits and also supply all the equipment. plus yeasts, powders and all the rest. Although no water treatment stuff. They even have 'crab boilers' wink wink for sale.

Tbf they're not bad.not great for the AG brewer but it works for me. Any speciality grains and stuff I buy online.

Will have to check your two out.

I have a brilliant shop where I live in Edinburgh

www.brewstore.co.uk

I've been in many a time for all my equipment, various kits, and sanitisers, yeasts, and just as important some good advice !

they always give my kids a free lolly when I drag them in too (hence why they don't mind chumming me !)
