I recently made my first AG IPA.

It's pretty tasty - but it's got an amber glow and I love that crisp straw yellow appearance. Made wonder, those on here who like their American IPAs- what grain bill do you use?

I love The Kernal's IPAs - would love to get a colour like that. Or I just had a beautiful Cloudwater Vic Secret Wai-Iti IPA that was apparently Golden Promise, Oats, Dextrose Monohydrate - I don't know what quantities.

My recent one, just FYI was a 10L batch, BIAB on the stove:

Grains:
Maris Otter 2.25 kg (80.4%)
Munich Malt 250g (8.9%)
Oats 100g (3.6%)
White Sugar 200g (7.1%)

(ABV: 6.8%)

Did one recently with 75% Golden Promise and 25% rolled oats which came out pretty good. I wouldn't use sugar unless trying for a 8/9% DIPA.

Any base malt.
Carapils 5-8%
Dextrose 0-5%

This forms the basis of my IPAs. Occasionally i'll sub out some of the base malt for Vienna, biscuit, oats etc to change things.

The Carapils help give hop aroma and flavour compounds something to bond to without adding any colour or chewy flavours.

The dextrose keep things light whilst raising the abv.

This is pretty much based on what russian river do to create Pliny the Elder.

Or as mentioned use 100% MO. Keep things simple let the hops be the star.

Thanks all! Interesting reading!

I think I'll go 100% MO next time and then try adding bits to that to see what they do.
