    Hello from Kiel, Germany

I visited Kiel for a school trip around about the early/mid 90’s. It was a lovely city, everyone was into this show called Man o Mann or something and there was a curfew for school aged kids which was a culture shock. I stayed with a nice family on an exchange and remember things being expensive.

UK supplier of micro or nano brewery scale supplies?

Hi all, I’ve seen a lot of listings for places that sell home brew kits, but is there any manufacturer in the UK who makes nano to micro brewery size equipment? The home brew places fall short and all I can really find is from China or America. Is that the situation or haveI missed somewhere...

Wanted: 1/2 barrel (60 liter) SS conical fermenter.

The fermenter must be able to be pressurized to 15 psi. It needs to be able to be cooled. New would be great but good quality used equipment would be fine too. We recently moved to the UK from America and don’t know who supplies the UK microbrewery/nanobrewery scene. My other half and I have...

Starting a brewery in an old pub

Thanks, yea, it looks like we need to consider at least the basics. Pies and scotch eggs, even fryer food is doable. We want to start small at the beginning and build up. Since I first posted this thread we have put an offer in on a pub, fingers crossed! I’ll have more to say on this forum once...

    Definitely. That’s the plan.

    Covid-19 the second wave.

I’ve been annoyed at the “no takeaway alcohol” thing too. If you sell bottles, cans, growlers and other sealed containers there should be no problem at all with it. I know of some breweries who had a “order online, deliver to your house” thing set up - are they not allowed to do that now? Why...

    Trump has Covid.

As a recent American I can tell you that he has indeed looked into it: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/08/10/politics/donald-trump-mt-rushmore-kristi-noem/index.html This may be an older story, but supposedly the rest of the rock isn’t stable enough to add anyone else. Quite...

    Going commercial

Excellent advice. I will definitely be following up on that. Thanks.

    Going commercial

We are happy to do the work, but we need to make sure the idea is viable before investing all of our savings into it. And we are both very unfamiliar in this territory. Our hope is to have a tap room and get most of our clients that way. We are happy to brew to sell to pubs, but as you say the...

    Going commercial

We are a bit wary of any food really, but it it has to be it has to be. That could be a good idea, something like that and some snacks.

    Going commercial

Thanks for that one. I hadn’t come across it during my search, and I only found one listing for it now I have actively looked, with just a rental number. I have found a number of other pubs that could be workable too... it’s just working out where to put the brewery. One idea could be in the...

    Going commercial

Thank you a lot for this reply. It does seem that having something on premises at a home is not the way to go, it was just one of the avenues we were exploring but good to know not one that we should continue to explore. We don’t want to get too tied up in planning permission issues.

    Going commercial

Devon and Cornwall were high on the list at one point! We love the Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival and the country there is amazing. The locals can be a bit iffy with non locals though right? Can they handle an American? ;) We need a place with enough craft beer drinkers to make the venture viable...

    Going commercial

Thank you! I have been looking into this, and just started a new thread about it since so many nice people on here mentioned this as an option. I like that we can also get a place to live wrapped up in the purchase this way. There’s just a lot of rules that I’m unfamiliar with which make it a...

Starting a brewery in an old pub

Hi all, This is a continuation of my previous post really. We are getting closer to making a decision on our future dream brewery that we have been saving towards for years and I really appreciate any and all feedback. We want to run a commercial brewery and my other half had been brewing for...
