    Ispindle monitoring

Reading the recent threads on Ispindle I am now considering treating myself to one. The one question I have is the active monitoring. Do I need to have a PC on all the time or does the spindle contain any form of memory that dumps the data? TIA Mike

    Greg Hughes recipes

Great thread, as a newbie with only 5 AG under my belt I found the comments very informative. Also pleased that so many experience brewers are making silly mistakes, at least I won't beat myself up so much when I make another. Cheers.

    Preboil volume query

Still only on my 4th all grain brew, so still learning. Previous brews have been a 19 litre kit from CML, supplied with excellent instructions. Now I have bought a Malt Miller 23 Litre True to Style #10 English Porter. The basic instructions supplied do not give a Mash volume or Preboil volume...

    Brewdog Punk IPA yeast

Thanks everyone, I did look at the price of the Wyeast, wow surprised how much it was. As suggested I will probable go with CML 5 or the Wilco. Cheers

    25kg bags of grain

Edit, I would have to be buying crushed.

    Brewdog Punk IPA yeast

I have been given a 1 gall all grain kit that is about 2/3 years out of date. I was going to replace the yeast sachet, please can someone recommend a suitable one? I do have a couple of in date (ale) Wilco yeasts but they have no reference number on them, could they be a second option?

    25kg bags of grain

Exploring the option of buying a bag from my local micro brewer. Before I enquire I was worried what would be the sensible use by time? If I can't split the bag with anyone local (TR11 4LJ) it could well be over a year before I use it all up.

    Barrel secondary fermentation

I am just using a King Keg barrel for the first time after fitting a pressure gauge. After priming I realised it is not practical to move indoors from the garage to keep at 20 C, my solution was to place in a builders bucket with a fish tank heater. This is my normal set up for initial...

Keg priming and Nitrogen use question

I am trying a king Keg for the first time. I normally use Brewers Friend to calculate the correct sugar priming amount for bottles. Does the same suggestion apply for barrels? Attached is a photo of my modified lid. I threw away the infamous CO2 cartridge fitting and replaced with a motorcycle...

    Temperature controller choice

Thanks again for all the info and suggestions. I am very new to this all grain brewing and with only one brew under my belt I think it best to learn to walk before I can run. Moving forward I think I will get the Inkbird ITC 308 to control the mash and the sparge containers as these two...

    Temperature controller choice

Thanks everyone. With all your comments I have been able to search the forum using the correct key words. Looks like my choice could be between an Inkbird ITC308 or a variable voltage regulator. Lots more to learn yet, never thought brewing could get so technical 😂

    Temperature controller choice

Thank you, this is something I had not considered. Could you recommend a unit, or is this what a Inkbird does.

    Temperature controller choice

Hi guys, looking for advice as to what type of controller (STC100 or a 7016A) would be best to control the boil temperature. When I check the data quoted on the Ebay sites, I get conflicting answers. Happy with a 10amp control, but need it to operate circa 100 deg. C. Hoping to do this project...

My first all grain, a few questions and lots of mistakes

My first all grain, a few questions and lots of mistakes

Bought a 19l stout kit from CML. Wow their customer service is second to none. After much reading but alas not enough I went with a 3 tiered BITB set up. I modified a cool box to use as the sparge box with soldered top spray arm and non soldered grain filter. I used push fit elbows and plastic...
