    Yeast Harvesting Guide

in my opinion - if your cleaning and sanitation is up to scratch, it's worth it to harvest yeast. It's a possible vector of infection, so you need to make sure that you're careful about hygiene, but if so, it can save a bit on each batch. I pretty much always use one strain of yeast for my...

Spray malt. Does everyone use it ?

well.. what did your SG reading say? That's the best way to tell if it's done, for sure. What was your OG to start with? Temperatures - depends on the yeast, but if I recall most pilsner/lager yeasts want temps a bit colder than ales. WL800 optimal temps are between 10-13 C. I don't think...

    What else do you make?

i bake bread a good bit; my partner and i both make jam - she just did up a batch of damson yesterday - and 95% of our meals are made from scratch. The veg patch was pretty rough going this year, still sorting out what will and won't grow back there.

    Stella bottles OK?

The only issue I can think of with Stella bottles would be the color - i have tried to only use brown glass bottles in my setup. I've heard people say that beer in green bottles is skunky, because the green glass doesn't block UV. That's not really accurate, though. I did some research and...

Anyone using the Brupaks 32L SS boiler?

"1. MEASURE VERY CAREFULLY THE PITCH (P) USING A THREAD PITCH GAGE, OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF MEASURING TOOL WHICH WILL GIVE AN ACCURATE READING FOR PITCH." hm. guess I need to buy tools for this.

Anyone using the Brupaks 32L SS boiler?

I recently purchased the Brupaks 32L stainless boiler and I'm trying to find out the threading of the ball valve. I think it's BSPT 1/2", rather than BSPP, but I'm not sure. Emailed the company I bought it from but they weren't sure either, and Brupaks hasn't replied to my query yet. Anyone...

Here we go then, First AG (Pic Heavy)

I'm curious about this as well - thought there was an upper limit on how long an extraction should go before there's diminishing returns. haha!

Sierra Nevada Beers, what are they like?

My opinions: I like the pale ale, it's what I think of when I think of Cascade hops. The porter is alright, not a fantastic example of the style though. Their seasonal Celebration is quite good, and I definitely recommend trying the Northern and Southern Hemisphere Harvest(s) if you get the...

Hi all any suggestions new to all this

Generally, lager yeasts need to ferment at lower temps than ale yeast, so you might need a way to cool down the fermenter as well. Not sure what at what temps your walk-in fridge runs, but that might be something to consider also.

    greetings

Hello all; I'm new to the UK but not to brewing... moved here about two years ago, left all my kit in the US. I've been missing the joys of homebrew and decided to start re-acquiring the needed equipment and start again. Got most of the bits and bobs together and looking forward to a brewday...
