    Gravity readings

I perfer to take a cylinder out of the wine and degas it before taking a reading, I'm sure I read somehwere, possibly in a 50 year old book, that the CO2 bubbles can cling to the hydrometer and give a false reading. Other than that i dont see any reason, other than poor eyesight ( like me) to...

    Buckets & lids.

if you are making wine you dont need a hole in the lid, most use the buckets to store the wine after "racking" and adding the finings. I got a load of buckts 2nd hand and never used the lids that had holes in the tops. I only brew wine so I guess they are there for the beer brewers to allow...

Good evening everyone, While taking a stroll through Morrison's fruit juice section, SWMBO said the following words - " why don't you make me an Orange and Pineapple Wine?" I recoiled in horror at the thought of the impending volcano, but the missus get what the missus wants! I will upload...

    No bubbling

I had the same issues, they are renowned for having issues sealing. The wine was fermenting but no bubbles through the air lock. i found it a bit of a let down. I tried the vasoline method but found it was very messy and did not produce any better results. I removed the rubber "O" ring from...

Hi Chippy, I'm looking to stop them at 1.000 so it will still be slightly sweet Rose. Dont want to be sucking up all the bits into the trial jar. Guess i may not have an option. I'm getting a bubble every 8-10 mins through the air lock Would you just leave them until they stop and then back...
