Thanks all
I will get a new lid
But going to stick with a off-centre grommet
Just in future remember to add the airlock to the lid before putting the lid on the fermentor
I’m in Yorkshire
Thanks
I do have spare grommets
I see what you mean by seal
I guess as it is not a hard plastic lid, as pressure builds it will flex and leak with a rubber bung
Guessing that also why keep the hole off centre, as the centre will have the greatest pressure
Hi all
So a made the classic rookie mistake of pushing my airlock down too hard and the grommet fell into the wort!!!
Left it in rather than trying to fish it out. Hopefully will be fine and I’m going to get a replacement lid anyway but made me wonder…..
Why do plastic fermentor use grommets? Is...
Thanks
I did the same extract kit earlier this year but with 1kg of brewing sugar turned out pretty nice

After 4 weeks racked into a secondary demijohn and topped up with a bit extra apple juice
So started fermenting again
I was planning on...

Yes it’s is mild tangy apple taste
Its not unpleasant and totally drinkable
I wonder if this is the intended flavour or due to acetylaldehyde? I hear that has a apple flavour
Overall for my first brew I’m quite please with the outcome
Hi all
I did this as my first home
I use the kit plus 1kg of brewing sugar, made 23L
I did brew at 24-30degrees (started my first brew in the middle of a heat wave in my shed)
Bottle Conditioned for 14days before opening first bottle
Result:
Its a drinkable larger
It’s does have a tangy...

I just completed my first brew
Thought a simple larger would be best
Starting brewing at the start of the heatwave before I read up more and found out larger like much cooler temps
Bottled it, been conditioning for 2 weeks now so will be opening soon
