    Doghouse...

My MIL is in for a small operation today so my wife is taking our girls down to collect her from hospital then stay the weekend. She went and did a big shop in Waitrose for them all over the weekend on Wednesday and stuck it all in the 'garage fridge' (there's an old spare fridge and the beer...

    Re: St Peters Cream Stout

Guys (and gals), I've had this in the FV for 18 days now, I was going to bottle or keg tonight but have thrown the instructions out. Can anyone tell me what they say about bottling, how much sugar/ dextrose do I need per bottle? Thanks for any help, Nial

Coopers Irish Stout - not enough fermentables?

I did bulk prime it in the pressure barrel. I can't remember how much I put in but this has also been as flat as ****, apart from the first few pints. I still like it though. :-)

Coopers Irish Stout - not enough fermentables?

The drink drive limit up here (Scotland) been lowered to 50mg/ whatever so being able to have a (good) few pints and know you're fine the next day is a bonus.

Coopers Irish Stout - not enough fermentables?

As an update to this.... I didn't get round to adding the extra beer enhancer so it had 2 weeks in the FV then three weeks in a pressure barrel, both at ~20 Deg C. It's great. It doesn't have the full bodied taste of a pint of Guiness but it's not 'thin', I think the treacle adds flavours that...

how much dextrose to carbonate Coopers stout in pressure barrel?

Great, thanks for the feedback guys. It's been in the FV for 3 weeks and we're away on holiday for 3 weeks. This might be my first homebrew that's had enough time to mature! Nial.

how much dextrose to carbonate Coopers stout in pressure barrel?

As the title asks, we're away on holiday tomorrow and I don't have time to bottle this so I'm going to stick it in a pressure barrel. Any input (and directions where to find the answer for future reference) greatfully received. Thanks, Nial.

    Conditioning time for commerical beers....

What sort of beers do they brew? Alechemy's beers tend to be very hoppy IPAs (and I suppose everything else), whether this makes a difference I don't know? They do filter their beers so I presume they have to be 'done' before bottling. He also said that canning is becoming more...

    Conditioning time for commerical beers....

I was a beer tasting run by the guy who owns Alechemy Brewing not far from here in Livingston last night. I asked him how long they condition the beers before bottling and he said it's at least two or three weeks conditioning, then a week in the cold toom before bottling, so it looks like even...

Coopers Irish Stout - not enough fermentables?

Thanks for the feedback guys. I started this on Thursday night and have just gone to see how it's doing to find the top of the airlock lying a few inches away from it. It must have been pretty vigorous at some point. I'll dissolve the rest of the enhancer in a little boiling water then add a...

Coopers Irish Stout - not enough fermentables?

I did my first batch of Coopers stout last night with... Tin of malt extract 500g Young's been enhancer 200g dark brown sugar Half a tin of treacle. I made up to 23 L and took a sample for testing the OG before pitching the yeast and putting it all in my fermentation fridge at 21 Deg...

    Minimising sediment

Does it affect conditioning or just carbonation? Nial.

    Minimising sediment

Hmmm. I've just bottled a batch of Youngs APA which I had in the FV for ~ 1 month, with the last week at 5 Deg C. It was brilliant, all the hop bits I had problem with before had dropped to the bottom. I syphoned to a pressure barrel to batch prime then bottled, they are already clear! But...

Anyone else had AG results between 'meh' and 'bleurgh'?

Is this because you brew with concentrated worts? Nial
