    High attenuation or something else?

Thanks - good point about it being a SMaSH, this hadn't occurred to me. The mash temperature differences are really interesting. I think I'll come back to this recipe in a month or so and try varying that... see what difference it makes :) I've got a packet of m36 for the next guy.

Only if you're assuming that the hydrometer was subject to earth-standard gravity whilst in the vacuum, right? :laugh8:

    High attenuation or something else?

Thanks! It's accurate enough for me to know that this is unusual. That's really helpful advice! Thanks :) I'll try varying the temperature in future.

    High attenuation or something else?

So on the 29th I attempted my first BiaB brew. It was a pale ale/EKG SMaSH (based on a thread from here), aiming roughly for a golden/blonde type ale. Unfortunately, the resulting beer is the colour of **** - **** from a healthy, well hydrated animal, but **** nontheless. It tastes fine, so...

Which castle is this? Looks amazing.

    Slow Start?

Hiya, I made a 12l batch of golden ale yesterday using the biab method. Turned out fine (OG 1044). I pitched 5g of CMY's 'Five' yesterday - into the wort at 23 degrees, let it sit for ten mins then gave it a good stir. 24 hours have passed and activity is slow - 30+ seconds between bubbles...

    The TV Licence.

It's hard to argue with that. I still feel like it's not enough to justify the kind of cuts we're seeing bandied about now though. The Tories are talking about cutting 2billion by cutting the license fee. To put that in context, the combined 2021 salaries of the highest paid BBC 'talent' amount...

    The TV Licence.

The letters, to be fair, are bloody ridiculous. A friend of mine recalls a day in the mid '90s when the inspectors called at his mum's flat. The woman in question (big lady, big personality, wicked sense of humour) let them in knowing full well that there wasn't a TV in the house, made a cup...

This gets bandied about a lot, but for all I know it's market rates. What are the equivalents for Skye/other broadcasters?

    The TV Licence.

God forbid 🤣 (assuming that was sarcasm) Anyway, Mad Nad has said she doesn't have a plan to replace it. For all her talk about poverty and fines, she's clearly just out to punish the Beeb for being insufficiently deferential to 'Boris'.

    The TV Licence.

I agree with everything else you said there, but this raises an issue. If the BBC were allocated tax money in the budget then they'd be more directly tied to the government. They need to be independent, right?

    The TV Licence.

As an independent musician, the BBC's radio stations are the only major media outlet willing to broadcast my work and those of others like me. Commercial radio is only interested in playing oldies or big chart acts with major budgets behind them. The BBC gives new artists who don't have loads...

Who is More Sleazy - can you help me decide?

Well, at least America's bad politicians are obviously crazy... I sometimes think that the problem we have is that people think things need to change, but then keep voting for more of the same thing over and over again. 'Ooh, but it'd be much worse if X got in!' 🤦
