Mixed fruit Turbo Cider not clearing

Does it matter whether it clears or not? Will it affect the taste, or is it an aesthetic thing?

Cider yeast problem: fermenting very slowly

Uh-oh. Looks like this one will definitely be a drink to sip over the course of a couple of hours then. Another reading last night: 0.994. Adding the four points for the extra sarsaparilla on gives me 0.990. According to the forum calculator, that's a 6.1% ABV. Almost double what I wanted...

Cider yeast problem: fermenting very slowly

Thanks for that guys, it's really helpful. One last question, and then I'll stop bothering you, I promise. So, I added that extra litre of sarsaparilla, which changed my hydrometer reading from 0.998 to 1.002. When I take my final gravity reading before bottling, do I take the reading at face...

Cider yeast problem: fermenting very slowly

Yeah, erm, that was the plan... Still, it's all being done in the spirit of experimentation. I'll just have to make sure I drink the bottles very slowly! How do you work out those ABVs though? Could you walk me through the maths please? Is 90% fermentation something you've worked out...

    Turbo cider?

Excellent. I think a TC will be my next brew once I bottle my alcoholic sarsaparilla. Where's the best place to get the apple juice from? I notice you can get 8l for £5 at Asda, which would make it around £15 for a whole fermenter's worth.

    Turbo cider?

Presumably you can scale it up and use a 23l fermenter?

Cider yeast problem: fermenting very slowly

Thanks for all the advice so far everyone! :thumb: I'm really pleased with how my brew's going so far. After my panic over what I though was a slow fermentation proved groundless, it's all been plain sailing. And fast, too. I checked last night and the yeasty head was almost entirely gone. A...

Cider yeast problem: fermenting very slowly

Well, looks like I was just being impatient after all! There's a good couple of inches of frothy head on there now. Phew!

    help with pineapple wine please

Yeah, a very handy tip! Does it hold true for beers and ciders, too? And will it prolong fermentation by much?

Cider yeast problem: fermenting very slowly

Yeah, I'm going to leave it alone and wait. I was just curious about the yeast thing. Cheers for the help! :thumb:

Cider yeast problem: fermenting very slowly

I'm definitely not going to risk bottle bombs! Last October I went on holiday with friends to Wales, and we all took 20 bottles of our brews. One of my friends had only recently bottled, and he'd used some Kopparberg bottles. Halfway down the motorway, three of them went boom! Very nearly...

Cider yeast problem: fermenting very slowly

Thanks for the help, evanvine! Yeah, I took a gravity reading: 1.036. So you'd recommend just leaving it then? That's a relief! Is that sort of activity normal for cider yeast? I've not used it before this (and this is my first attempt at something that doesn't come in kit form) so...

Cider yeast problem: fermenting very slowly

Hi guys and gals, I'm pretty new to homebrewing, having only ever made beer kits before. But on Sunday night, I decided to do something more adventurous and attempted to brew an alcoholic sarsaparilla drink. I used 4 litres of Baldwin's Sarsaparilla - 27.7g of sugar per 100ml, so around 1.1kg...

    Hello!

Cheers! Reading the various forums here, I'm getting inspired to go further afield than the beer kits I've been modifying thus far. I've already attempted a sarsaparilla brew, and I'm eyeing up the various turbocider and wine recipes. Looks like I'm going to need to find more storage space...

    Hello!

Hello all! I've been lurking around this forum for a couple of weeks, reading and enjoying and learning a lot, so I thought I should really join up and start joining in. Last year I was given a 25l fermentation vessel, hydrometer, siphon and bottle capper as well as a Young's Harvest Bitter kit...
