    Church End Goat's Milk Clone

Hello Everyone. Hope you are all surviving the lockdown and have plenty of homebrew stock. I managed to get a 25kg bag of Pale Malt plus all the hops and speciality grains I needed , online, courtesy of Home Brew Supplies, Farnborough. Everything went well and the quality seems excellent. I am...

    Gerwin yeast

Hi Chris Length was 23L, OG 1.048 and I used one packet, 11g I guess? The initial fermentation went off like a rocket even at 17deg and finished in less than 2 days down to 1.012. Any ideas? Cheers Scubabrewer

    Gerwin yeast

Hi Oldbloke Sorted then - two bottles at 20degC for 2 weeks and two bottles with yeast/malt inoculation. Wonder if either will work? Interesting to give it a try as the (flat) porter does taste pretty good. Cheers Scubabrewer

    Gerwin yeast

Hi Oldbloke - many thanks for the reply. I used GV12. Racked off from the primary FV into a sealed container then bottled after one week with half a teaspoon of sugar per litre. Left in the incubator at 17deg for two weeks then in the garage (7 deg) for four weeks. Plenty of yeast sediment in...

    Brewng Lager

Bentonite = a clay from the USA mostly used to clear wine, I would stick with gelatine - cheap, easy to use and works every time for me. Scubabrewer

    Gerwin yeast

Hi fellow brewers After a long career as a home brewer, with plenty of success and my fair share of failures, I have had to endure an event I never thought would happen - a whole batch of flat bottled beer. I remember a few years ago having to wear a welders mask and industrial gloves to open a...

Brew Your Own British Real Ale - Graham Wheeler

Hi All I bought GW's BYOBRA to get me back into AG brewing after a gap ( raising 2 children) of 25 years. I was a devotee of St Dave (Line) and used to brew clones from his book "Brewing beers like those you buy" which came out fine as I recall. I found GW's book very easy to read and it...

    Brewing equipment

Hi Everyone. Due to a growing love affair with beer I now need to increase my cask capacity by doubling up to two. My current cask is a very old but OK model. Can anyone recommend a good plastic pressure 5L barrel? I understand there are some design flaws with King Kegs and Rotokegs, and I...

    Newbie Fast Guinness!

Hi Glingerbrewer - glad to hear your GW guiness tastes good. I believe the speed is down to the Safale yeast. Whenever I use it with a starter ( as always) it goes off like a rocket even at 17deg in my incubator. It then ferments out in< 3 days! I tapped my latest cask of GW's Jennings...

    My fermentation fridge build

Hi All Can you hear the sobbing? I recently got rid of an old but working chest freezer. Wish I'd kept it as a chiller/fermenter. I guess I'll have to drown my sorrows in the last few pints of Deuchards IPA in the fermenter. Cheers Scubabrewer.

Record breaking brew day...Now with Pics

5L plastic bottles from Tesco as miniFV's or demijohns Hi StevieDS - great idea, I'll get some. I make cider each autumn and they will make great storage vessels as it takes 9 months to mature. Cheers Scubabrewer.

More images of brewing, bottling and final result =)

Hi Mattyhall - love the labels! After my last brew I put the FV sediment into a 2L PET and let is stand in the fridge overnight. I racked the "beer" off the sediment and froze it about one litre. Today I added it to the slow cooked pork instead of cider and the sauce/gravy tastes GREAT! Try it...

    Bubbling over fv

Hi IPA - you are absolutely correct, the traditional brewers use open fermenters sometimes called Yorkshire squares. The yeast cake (with a blanket of CO2 underneath ) protects the brew from infection. Unfortunately I have a wife who is isn't keen on the smell of fermenting beer so I have my...
