    Backpressure causing stuck ferment?

To put this in perspective, commonly observed atmospheric pressure varies between 970 and 1040 mb a variation of 70mb which equates to 700mm of H2O so complete and utter tripe!

    Elderflowers in beer!!

I've brewed Festival kits Summer Glory, a golden ale with elderflower and they add dried elder flowers at yeast pitching once the wort is cool and this works well for giving a subtle background aroma. I'm far from experienced in this but I imagine boiling would destroy the aroma.

NEW! Festival Vienna Red Lager Beer Kit

I have just bought the NZ lager kit and was unsure about the yeast supplied so I e-mailed Richie Products last night and got this reply from their Production Director first thing this morning. Amazing customer service! California type lager yeasts are in-fact lager-ale yeast hybrids which...

New Member - Confused with Lager Brewing

Hi and welcome. I'm fairly new to here too and have just started a lager from Brupaks, their Beers of the World range which claims to have a true lager yeast and I am inclined to believe this as it was showing signs of fermenting in under 24hrs at 13C. (I just found the packet and this is the...

    Pilsner kit water experiment

Agreed, it does look bad in the pic. I normally only use the one at the bottom for 5 or 6 gallons. I'm going to have to do something now...

    Pilsner kit water experiment

Hi all, I thought I'd post my Pilsner water experiment here to share the results as it progresses. Basically I have two Brupak's Beers of the World Czech Pilsner kits that I was originally going to combine to make a 20 ltr brew. I've now decided to brew one with my normal hard tap water and one...

Soft water for lager kit brewing?

Totally agree with the tea statement, especially as it keeps the crunchy bits out of the tea if we don't filter. However the hard tap water tastes so good for drinking on its own, soft water neat tastes wrong to me. I guess it's what you are used to with your local water type. I'm going to try...

Soft water for lager kit brewing?

Thanks for the replies. I've also read more on this and it does appear to be unnecessary to go to these lengths, certainly for kit brews. I've never had off tastes with any kits since I started using a brew fridge, making bitters, golds, stout and porter kits with success. I just have this soft...

    Lager kit suggestion please

I've just bought a couple of Brupak's beers of the world Czech Pilsner and they come with a proper bottom fermenting lager yeast. They are a bit pricy at c.£15 for a 10ltr kit so you need two of them to make a reasonable quantity, unless you try a small brew if it's more of an experiment.

    Festival Kits & Yeast

I know exactly what you mean... I was planning on moving on to AG but the premium kits are so good now and save so much time compared with many hours for an AG brew. I still want to go AG as the results can be so good and give a lot of scope to experiment. Just need a bit more free time!

    Festival Kits & Yeast

You will love the Festival kits. I've had some great success with them over the last six months: Summer Gold limited edition (2 batches bottled) - excellent, especially chilled with curry. Razor back IPA (draught) v. good, a powerful flavour not for the feint hearted. Have just run off a second...

Soft water for lager kit brewing?

Hi all, I've not posted since my first after joining the forum last year but have been reading many of the excellent posts and learning. I've had some great success since building the brew fridge and using premium kits. Having temperature control over my fermentation I thought I should try a...

    Hello from Newbury!

Thank you for the welcomes. I would like to go AG straight away, the few I have done with other brewers have been fantastic. I just need fewer working hours... I do have a plan but it will be a couple of months before it all comes together.
