Hi in my humble opinion it would not be a good idea to secondary ferment in the 2 or 4 litre Growler as the minute you unscrew lid the pressure will dissipate instantly also you will have sediment to contend with in the bottom ... I use mine with good results for weekend camping trips and it...
Thank you Leon
Yes i guess it could of been air bourne .. wild yeast is a new one on me I guess we mean that the yeast itself is infected in some way it was a kit I don't normally use a Woodford nog , I used to brew a lot in the 70 / eighties and never had any trouble and this is about my...
Recently I had a brew fail it was contaminated for sure and I do sterilise every thing but now I have taken it to the next level I do know that vaseline can be a breeding ground for bacteria if the conditions are right so i use a new jar kept in the fridge i even use a tea spoon to remove the...
Oh sorry
I bought the barrel at a boot thinking wrongly that the youngs caps would do the job , i posted the problem up here and bigcol49 kindly sent me one F.o.c .
You lot are a nice bunch â˺
I might try this at some point though i might also stick with the milton tabs i find them cheap enough one tab makes 5 litres and its no rinse though i do drain residues off just in case it could taint the brew ,
If its good enough for babies it's good enough for my brew i hope .....
I guess...
Well thanks to Bigcol49 here my barrel is now ready to roll and I am about to put a coopers stout in it the cap fits a treat and I have just fitted a new valve into it ,
Brilliant thank you ....
Yes thank you all for your useful info and ideas I did talk to naked keg and they have confirmed that the only way is to use the screw in type cylinders they even tried to see if a modification was possible but drew a blank there , so it looks like I will have to invest in a new piece of kit I...
Thank you for help the hydro meter does test out ok I have two I use also at the end of my calculation I do add 0.5 for the final sugar that I add to the barrel which gives me the 5.8 % Is this wrong ?? Re: yeast I just use what comes with the kit ...
It starts at 10 45 and finished 1005
I use 1 kg of brewing sugar and 85 g for the secondary fermentation as I barrel it .
It's in the f v for 10 days or there abouts depending on temp it carbs up lovely and tastes just fine .
Hi it's not a problem but my last two Geordie kits winter warmer and a mild finish with a Abv of 5.8 % which is a little potent for me I normally am quite happy with 3.8 to 4
Cooper kits my favourite the stout are normally around this .... so why is this and what can I do to reduce the...
Ok thank you all, I did as suggested and emailed the home brew shop and Miller's and failed they only sell the new style youngs
Cap I might give it another go and try and seal the cap lid on to the top of the barrel body using an alternative seal it's worth a go
Before I give up on it ..
Ok thank you I was hopeful I would be able to use my soda stream style co2 gas bulbs for the dads ale type set up but it seems the cylinders for these have a 10mm male thread on them, is there a system out there that uses my type of co2 cylinders and if not where is the cheapest place to get...
I do remember getting busted by the boys in blue one new years eve for dancing on the local church roof and a friend of mine turned his dad's 3 wheeled plastic pig over ...
The brew was resposible for both actions ðŸË¯
