1/2 Barrel (58.5l) Fermenter / Serving Tank with Ball Lock post

So finally got to build/test this bad boy out. We took a standard 1/2 barrel keg, removed the spear, made a custom cap and silver soldered 2 corny post connectors to the top of the keg. Cap - 2" tri clover cap drilled with a 12" thermowell silver soldered in place. Top of Keg - 2...

Simple no clump DME yeast starter

Not really the purpose is growth, once its finished you crash in the fridge and pour off the spend wort leaving the yeast behind. Any off flavors will be diluted to non exsistance but keepimg them at a temp to keep them active is critical. I have an idea to help eliminate cleanup but will...

    Checking in

Sorry I haven't been for the past couple of months, been heavy in development of hardware and software. We recently rebuild our test system which is a dream to brew on and can't wait to finish. I am currently rewritting brewpi to be dynamic cloud application with mobile support as well become an...

Simple no clump DME yeast starter

I had to make a starter last night and thought I would share my process. I always have a big bag of DME on hand for starters but always struggled to break down the clumps until I stumbled upon this one day when I needed to add some extra DME. Fill your clean/sanitized elmer flask with...

Brew Machine 3.0 - Massive Overhaul

Test Run Time to test the system and see how well it works, after a couple of tweaks we will be ready for the final version. Bypass in action This is so awesome, we disabled the bypass (hose under the pumps) and starting pulling hard on the grain bed and you could see it instantly go...

    Lets talk hops

1 part Chinook, 2 parts Amarillo, 2 parts citra. Love this combo. I am a big fan of cascade, centennial, amarillo, warrior, columbus, EKG and sterling. When dry hopping reinforce your boil additions and get a good hop stand to pack in that aroma.

Brew Machine 3.0 - Massive Overhaul

Plumbing Combined input into the RIMS, though a sight glass, pumps then off to either the mash tun or whirlpool. The bottom of the bottom of the 4 way recirculates the excesses from the mash tun to not collapse the grain bed.

Brew Machine 3.0 - Massive Overhaul

I do business intelligence (database coding) but I have been a code hacker for awhile and have a background in design. Its taken me a while to figure out what I wanted to do and one day it just all clicked. So the ultimate goal is to offer this as a free product to homebrewers and offer advanced...

Brew Machine 3.0 - Massive Overhaul

This software / hardware has turned into a blackhole of time and I haven't slept much coming home from coding all day to coding on this till 1am and getting up at 5am for work. It is worth every second and what is in the works is crazy and don't want to give away too much but every homebrewer...

Brew Machine 3.0 - Massive Overhaul

Right on thanks @ellams for the tips, here was out weekend: Dimpled the HLT replacing the weldless ball valve with a dimpled/soldered fitting then drilled and attached a tee for the sightglass and thermowell. The tee was slight larger then the coupler so we decided to dimple inwards, bolt the...

Brew Machine 3.0 - Massive Overhaul

Right on, I am excited to get this all loaded up and and can't wait to get all the plumbing done and Strange Brew online. Any tips for dimpling / soldering? My raspberry pi's will be here today (adding one to the fermenter, the old computer took a dump so time to replace it)

Help with first brew recipe (IPA)

I would look for a bittering hop like magnum, warrior, horizon, nugget and look to steep some crystal and late addition extract.

Brew Machine 3.0 - Massive Overhaul

12.5g batchs, we were welding / fabricating by the pool. Most of the fab work is over on the stand now onto working on the vessels. Here is a 1/2 stainless coupler that has been grinded down on a bench grinder to created a dimple tool. A hole will be drilled into the keg and this will be...

Brew Machine 3.0 - Massive Overhaul

Sorry I have not been quiet, been very busy offline but here are some updates. Software We decided to make the push for StrangeBrew Elsinore which is Rasberrypi based and the developer is really kicking ass. Check out the video for a quick example of the UI and the development thread on...

    wild hops...

Sierra Nevada just released a beer called Harvest Wild Hop IPA with a new wild hop grown in New Mexico called Neomexicanius. This is unlike any variety I have tried and the best way is very canibus like without the skunk/dank and delicate. Took a couple of sips but I'm hooked on it. You...
