Thanks Slid - I see you're just down the road from me! I emailed Youngs and they reckon it was good to go in terms of adding the hops too. So, I added them yesterday afternoon; smelt lovely! What you mention about the hydrometer makes sense; so it was probably closer to the 1010 mark than...

5.6% (it started at about 1052). The krausen has cleared right down now so reading hydrometer is fairly easy. Kit advocates adding hops at 1010 or less. Can't see it getting there at the moment

My APA has been stuck at about 1012/14 for at lest 3 days. Any advice?

The krausen cleared through the 15/16th day. Been stuck at about 1012/14 the past couple of days; will check again in a couple more to see if it's reached the 1010 it recommends to add the hops at....

Both; had a quick sneaky peek inside - still a good layer of foam/bubbles. Instructions do indicate a 15 day primary so it could all die down the next couple of days?

Noob here! I've got the APA in a primary FV & it will have been in there for 2 weeks tomorrow. I've not taken a gravity reading yet (& I'm not using an airlock), but I'm wondering if I should wait for the, still thick, layer of krausen to subside before I add the dry hops?

Complete noob here; kits only at the moment - first attempt was a Coopers Wheat beer - kegged in mini kegs. Not bad at all; the last keg (obviously the one 'conditioned' longest), was by far the best so I can't help thinking the instructions were a bit keen?! I've now got a Youngs A.P.A...
