    Under Pressure

One would think that they'er both constructed to the same tolerances. It could be that your pushing them to the max and you got a little off on head space and priming sugar. Now that it's all messed up refill it and see just how much pressure it can take. Just do it outside.

    Small cask

Yes, the same principal applies. On a barrel smaller the 5 gallons you will get the flavor from the wood, but you can't leave it in the barrel for long enough to mature. On a small barrel you get oak flavor but you won't be able to leave it in the barrel for long enough, and you can't get the...

Corny Question - What Have I done Wrong??

You over charged it. 30 psi 48 hours max, and that will be a little over carbed. If you want to hit it perfect go 12 psi and leave it on gas and in the fridge for 2 or 3 weeks. A tap right to the keg is a pain, add some line and it will poor better. I also think you may have a leak.

    oak chips

Don't use them for beer. For beer or wine you need good heart wood. If you just ran some limbs through the chipper your going to have a lot of sap wood in there. Sap wood will be bitter and nasty. Use them to barbecue but not for beer.

    Small cask

The bad thing about a very small barrels is the oak to wine ratio. Yes it will oak up faster but you can't get any ageing out of them, all your doing is flavoring the wine. If you leave your wine in a toasted 5l barrel for longer then a few weeks it's not going to be very good. Personally I...

corny keg - beer out post

Yes you can re cut the threads. I did the same thing to one of my kegs and I repaired it. If I recall the thread on the one I buggered up was 19/32-18. There are different thread types for different kegs. Here's a link to some of the common ones. http://dresselbrew.com/Keg_Info.htm By the time...

Planning Fullers ESB Clone for AG#1

I want to do a Fullers esb clone this weekend. I've got the basic grain bill, what's the suggestion for hops and mashing schedule?

What you think about this recipe? Will it work? IPA

I would do the hop schedule a little different. On the 2min addition I like to use a lot more hops then 1oz. I would use 2 oz of crystal at 2min and 2oz of golding at 5 min. Skip the goldings at 60 min. That's going to be a pretty dark beer, darker beers tend to mask the bitterness so I don't...

100 things to do before i turn 21

Ya, few to many beers. :drink: No good has ever come from me getting into an aircraft. You might want to narrow it down to one epic adventure, like hiking the great wall of China. If I was 20 again that's what I would do.

WORT AERATOR anyone use one ?

On a high gravity beer yes it's worth it. It will significantly reduce your lag time. On anything else no. Fyi, you can make a massive yeast starter with a aerator.

    Under primed (no fizz) lager

With lagers you can sometimes have problems getting enough yeast into your bottling bucket. When you bottle a lager make sure you drag the racking cane one time along the bottom of the fermentor. Two weeks really isn't enough time, give it another 3 weeks and see what happens.

    first AG

Hmmm, buba that looks like a brew. I'm going to do that one soon. Sometimes the simplest brews are the best. That one looks like a good choice.

    first AG

Ya you could do it without step mashing and just do a 152f mash for an hour. One thing you might not have considered is that a 10% brew is going to need to sit in the bottle for awhile before it starts to get good. Do you have the patients to let your first all grain sit in the bottle for 4-6...

    first AG

I think the grain bill looks good. I wouldn't raise the temp to 80f, 70-75 but 80 is going to give you some off flavors you might not like. I would also go 4 weeks primary with a brew that big. Also that's a big beer for your first all grain and the step mash will be a pain. You have enough to...

    Dry Hopping - Hop Advice

For a 40 pint batch it all depends on how much aroma you want. I generally find that 1oz is plenty, for a big IPA sometimes I'll go with 2oz. As for what kind of hop go with an aroma hop and just pick one you like. I personally like a Willamette which is similar to a fugal. Just pick...

    Getting good head

One trick you can try is adding a half pound of rolled unmalted barley, or caripils to your recipe. That will help with head retention if your bottling.

    Getting good head

Ya but that's ok once you go through with the wedding it doesn't get used much. :drink: What I meant was a nitrogen kegging set up.

100 things to do before i turn 21

Figure 8 bus racing. Learn to drive a 13 speed. Do the dead with twins. Drink a bottle of tequila all on your own. Get in a fight with someone twice your size, the tequila should help with that. Travel a lot. That should keep you busy for a while.

    Priming mead?

Sparkling mead is done here in the states all the time. 2/3 cup of dextrose per 5 gallons just like beer, and depending on how many times you racked it you may need to add some fresh yest.
