St Peters Ruby Red Ale review

Second time brewing this kit. In the vat for a full three weeks as I found last time 2 weeks is not long enough for this kit. So 3 weeks sitting at around 22 degrees and then into 500ml bottles with half a teaspoon of white cane sugar in each one. Left at 22 degrees for 2 weeks and then under...

    Canadian Blonde

Thanks for the reply MyQul. Will definitely try some of your suggestions next time. This time was just a tryout, did expect a very aley type lager but here's hoping it will still be very drinkable.

    Canadian Blonde

Hi all thought I'd try and brew a slightly strong but tasty lager type beer for those warm days we'll be getting soon....Aye right...!!! Took a can of Cooper's Canadian Blonde and mixed in a kilo of Brew Enhancer 1 and a kilo of brewing sugar, then added a sachet of Safale 04 to get the mix...

    Coopers, Original Dark Ale Review

Hi all Tried a couple of testers at the weekend as it had been in the bottle for two and a half weeks now. 14 days in the warm and 3 in a cooler area. Bottom line..........this is already a very good pint....I'm pleasantly surprised. Reminds me of McEwans Champion without the strong alcohol...

    Coopers, Original Dark Ale Review

Hi all Bottled this yesterday with a heaped half teaspoon baking measure of caster sugar per bottle as usual. Final Gravity was 1012 so not going to be the strongest beer I've brewed but I have to say, the Safale yeast left a very clear beer, it's been in the bottles for 24 hrs now and is just...

    Coopers, Original Dark Ale Review

Thanks for the info MyQul. Yes I used 1kg of Brew Enhancer 2 this time. I had brewed a lager kit before with Brew Enhancer 1 and it came in at 1042 O.G. that's why I was a bit annoyed that this only attained 1034 but it's done now, just have to wait and see what the end result is. I'm sure it...

    Coopers, Original Dark Ale Review

Hi all Started this yesterday with Brew Enhancer 2 and Safale S04 yeast as I was having trouble getting below 1014 with all my other kits so thought I'd try a different variety of yeast other than the one that comes with the kit. The only thing that I find worrying is that the O.G. was only...

    Final Gravity.

Thanks guys That's exactly what I'll do with the next kit, I'll try the 11g pack and hydrate it first before pitching.

    Final Gravity.

Hi all A question for the more experienced kit brewers amongst you. I have now brewed five different kits in the last few months ranging from lager to Stout, 2 can kits and 1 can kits with cans of malt extract and some with only brew enhancer, all brewed at the 40 pint mark and all brewed at...

    Coopers stout done (with pics)

I did this kit with 1.5kg tin of dark malt extract. It's been in the bottles for nearly 4 weeks now, primed with exactly 4g of sugar per 500ml bottle. tried a bottle last night and I have to say I'm surprised as it has virtually no head retention whatsoever and no carbonation to speak of...

    What are you drinking tonight?

Coopers Original Draught, five weeks in the bottle and it's now an excellent pint.

    Coopers Original Stout Review

Hi all Started this on Monday and just tested gravity there and it's down to 1012 already. It went crazy for 24 hrs and then calmed down to a bubble every 30 seconds or so. Is this normal for this kit and if so would you say the fermentation is finished. I will still let it sit for the...

    Coopers Original Stout Review

Hi all Started this yesterday with a 1.5kg tin of Dark Malt Extract. I see what people are saying when they talk about a vigorous fermentation with this kit. My airlock this morning is just a foam fountain....!!! Took the precaution of standing the F.V. inside a large tub though.:drink:

    Coopers Traditional Draught

Hi all Tried a bottle of this today as it has been bottled for 2 weeks and I was moving the lot from the warmth of upstairs to cool and condition in the cupboard downstairs. Made with a 1.5kg can of LME as recommended, I have to say it is a very, very good pint and after around 6 weeks I...

    Another carbonation question

I'm drinking this kit at the moment. It's a very good pint I must admit. I made it with the Brew Enhancer 1 and primed each 500ml bottle with a heaped half teaspoon baking measure of white sugar. After about 2 weeks I tried one and wasn't impressed at all but after 6 weeks the carbonation is...

    Coopers Original Stout Review

Hi guys I intend to do this kit with a 1.5kg tin of dark malt and possibly 500g of sugar to up the abv, do you think this is a bit too much or will it ferment out okay.

    First attempt at bottling

Awrighty Paul I only use sugar for carbonating, you should be fine with 2 drops per bottle. Try and keep them in the fridge for a couple of hours before opening though...just in case you get a foam fountain........only joking....!!!!

    First attempt at bottling

Hi Covrich No not at all. Will try one every week up to about 4-6 week mark, for experimentation purposes, by then it should be good to go.:D

    First attempt at bottling

Hi Paul I bottled mine a couple of days ago. Had it in the FV for 13 days and for the last four of them it wouldn't go below 1014. I used a heaped half teaspoon baking measure of white Tate & Lyle sugar in each bottle and used glass bottles with crown caps. had a look today as they have been...
