Approx 130 bottles...
Its always done it Rob, It baffles me, cos surely even gases were escaping another way, if the pressure is high enough to push the lid up, its high enough to make the air lock bubble. It's not really causing a problem other than baffling me!!
Every brew I make this happens; The fermenter lid puffs right up but the airlock doesn't bubble, I don't understand how there can be enough pressure to blow the lid up but not make the airlock bubble. They're not blocked cos after I've racked the brew into a carboy I've checked the air locks...
New holes cut immediately, manifold was facing down, there wasn't that many slats in it to be honest. Ill try the syphon effect with the boiler. i've got the hop strainer bent down touching the bottom ( lower than the tap) but no pipe on the tap from the outside, will just adding a pipe sort it...

I'm using a coolbox mash tun with a copper manifold as a grain filter, it has slits cut in. I keep getting a stuck mash at run off and sparging stage, I ran the first two pints off today and it stuck there. Any idea's to remedy this?
I've built a new boiler two, its works...
Is the little copper strip on the back of the tesco kettle element a safety cut out. It connects to a little push switch on the wiring side. Does any of this need removing?

I fly sparge. I've always opened the MT tap, recirculated the first runnings, then started the sparge. I keep about an inch above the grains. Is this correct or should I completely drain the tun then start the sparge?
