    Brewmaker's IPA & Bottling

I've got the same Brewmaker IPA in my FV just getting ready to bottle/barrel... Don't worry too much about seeing bubbling in your airlock: it sometimes depends on the style of airlock you have used. As long as you see the krausen develop, the yeast is doing its thing. I don't think either of of...

    Dirty Milestone Black Pearl!

SO, I've been labelling up my batch of dirty Black Pearl, and one of the bottles accidentally came open.... Now, I'm not much of a stout drinker, and it has only had a few weeks of conditioning, but I'm impressed.... Lovely, dark and malty, with a nice feeling in the mouth, and a head that will...

    Brewmaker IPA brew-day...

I always do a hop tea with the primary fermentation, I've never been convinced to dry-hop because of the sludge that you end up getting. 10 minutes in a boiled jug of water, and I've never had a problem with the final product... Nice and bitter, with more sophisticated smell and taste compared...

    Dirty Milestone Black Pearl!

So, an update, this one got to a stable final gravity of 1012, meaning this little beast was bottled at just a smidgin over 6%.... Dark as dark can be, and now sitting in a cool dark place for a few months!

    Brewmaker IPA brew-day...

So, after brewing a VERY dark stout, based on a Milestone Black Pearl kit, I'm back to getting some session beers on the go for the Autumn and winter season (yeah, right!). First up, a Brewmaker IPA, which seems to have had good reviews (not to be mistaken with the Best of British IPA)...

    Dirty Milestone Black Pearl!

A new brew today, using my DIY temperature controlled fermentation vessel! Milestone Black Pearl (cheap as it had a short date), with 500g Muntons extra dark spraymalt, and a 30g hop tea of Goldings (as it seemed to be a good idea at the time)... with an OG of 1056! Now for the wait to see...

    DIY Temperature Controlled Fermenting Unit

.... And, to be honest, lagers are not really my bag!

    DIY Temperature Controlled Fermenting Unit

Leon103, yes, you are absolutely correct, I could have bought a cheap new fridge for about £100 (if you can get one that fits the FV with room to manoeuvre, of course), but you would then still have to buy the Inkbird, heater, FV, build a strong shelf to hold the FV etc...., which I think...

    DIY Temperature Controlled Fermenting Unit

Okay, here is an update.... So it arrived at the weekend, I cut a small hole to allow the outlet air to circulate in the chamber, and IT WORKS PERFECTLY! I gave it a trial for the past few days by setting the Inkbird temperature to ±0.2 degrees sensitivity, and the FV has been kept at a very...

    DIY Temperature Controlled Fermenting Unit

Well, I'll just have to see! I did ask a friend who has one for his VW Camper, and he said it does make a difference to his van, and my guess is that it will be more effective in a smaller space, which is heavily insulated. I'm not looking to keep milk fresh in there, just to knock a few daytime...

    DIY Temperature Controlled Fermenting Unit

I've been struggling for months to get hold of a cheap/free fridge the right size and shape in order to set up a brewing station in my workshop that can cope with the summer months. My problem is that the ones I have seen is that they are just not quite the right shape, and often the base of...

    Busy brew day!

I've used the same Saaz hop tea in the second experiment, and used 1kg golden spraymalt, 250g of brew enhancer, and of course the 11g SafLager SF-26 yeast, rather than the yeast provided in the pack by Wilko. My hope is that the Pilsner will taste a little less like a light ale, and a bit more...

    Busy brew day!

Well, today I've bottled 40 pints of Wilko Delicate Pilsner (brewed with added Saaz hop tea, 1kg of light spraymalt) which looked and smelled good, and then set up my new improved temperature controlled FV (see pic: a temporary solution until I can pick up an old fridge!), and now have a Wherry...

    Simply, Mild Kit

Well, a month or so after bottling, and I have to say I'm impressed with the mild. Very drinkable indeed. Not much of a head (they are being stored fairly cold at the moment, but very tasty indeed. It might be a struggle getting this to last into the summer!

    Milestone Donner & Blitzed Review

Bit of an update, as I have had a bottle just last night, to see if it improves with age... And YES, it was a much better pint all round, having lost some of the gimmicky sweetness. It still smells like a Christmas pudding (I guess as a Yule beer it has to), but it was a much more pleasant pint...

    Youngs Harvest Bitter review

My review is for Youngs Definitive Bitter (no sign of a thread of its own, so this seems to be closest!), so perhaps a Moderator might pick this up and give it a home of its own! I think it does deserve its own space... My first attempt at a one-tin beer kit, and my first attempt to try and be...

    Simply, Mild Kit

I've just bottled a batch of this, as my first attempt at a mild, and it is sitting in a nice cosy corner conditioning away... After seeing some comments about the kit needing a bit of a boost, I used 500g Muntons dark spray-malt and 700g Muntons beer enhancer rather than brewing sugar, and...

    Milestone Donner & Blitzed Review

This was the second kit brew I did, as a Christmas keg for the family. The brewing went well, with no problems, resulting in a round 4.0% abv, which suited me just fine. I have to say, I was not a fan of the final product... It was just too sweet and syrupy for my palate. About half the barrel...

    Woodfordes Wherry Review

Just as many others, Wherry was my first homebrew, and has led me into a wild world of many different brews! An excellent all round kit... I add a bag of Fuggles pellets to the FV to add a few additional hoppy notes, but this is an excellent brew. Batch 2 has gone well, although I am trying to...

    Brewdog - DIYDog

Released yesterday! What a great gesture, I just wish that a few other decent breweries would do this... https://www.brewdog.com/lowdown/blog/diy-dog
