Forgot to add the dextrose pack

Mine's been slower, but steady - a bubble once every 5 seconds or so. Hope it turns out something like Anchor Steam, which on tap in California I found very palatable.:)

Forgot to add the dextrose pack

Didn't do the OG I'm afraid, only ever check the FG to make sure it's finished before bottling. Lazy git that I am. I did make up a solution of the sugar and gave the whole thing a gentle stir, and it's bubbling away merrily right now. I'll give it some more time before I add the hops.

Forgot to add the dextrose pack

OK, will do. Thanks for the advice. Fortunately fermentation hadn't finished so there are presumably plenty of active yeast in there.

Forgot to add the dextrose pack

Brewing up a Festival Steam Beer kit at the moment - 4 days in and I realised I forgot to add the dextrose pack. You're supposed to add the hops after 5 days, would it be sensible to leave it a few days to settle down again before doing this?

    Wine fizzy? Why?

They're in wine racks at the moment. I may put them in a crate tomorrow just in case they start pushing the corks or worse. I'll keep an eye on things and will open one at the weekend in the interests of quality control. Doubt there will be any left in months...

    Wine fizzy? Why?

So sit tight and shake out the bubbles when the bottle is opened? Or perhaps recork in a week or so?

    Wine fizzy? Why?

No not yet. Sorry I missed your posts, I did do a search. Wine is still clear and bright, which is something, I suppose...

    Wine fizzy? Why?

Tau, thanks for the reply. I'm pretty sure I got the hydrometer reading right, and in fact I had the wine sitting in the carboy for a while longer than strictly necessary. Degassed it over two days with an electric drill and wine whip, all the chemicals added at the correct time. OK, so...

    Wine fizzy? Why?

I think if it had been in a warm environment then I would be less surprised at the fizz, but it's reet cold in the garage at the moment. None of the bottles are leaking (so far)

    Wine fizzy? Why?

Just noticed that my latest batch of white wine (a Kenridge Sauvignan Blanc kit) which I bottled a few days ago and put in my freezing garage seems to be getting a bit fizzy. There are quite a lot of small frothy bubbles in there! I'm puzzled, because even if I managed to introduce something...

Good head on turbo cider- should it?

Yeah, Tesco's own apple juice. I'll get a picture if the missus has a glass this evening. She says it tastes fine though.

Good head on turbo cider- should it?

Well the cider tastes fine, but it has a head that is creamy to the point of being like Guinness. Why would it do that- I've never seen commercial cider with a head on it?

Festival kits- dry hops in a bag?

Ah, the obvious solution. Back of the class Reg...

Festival kits- dry hops in a bag?

Apologies if this has been asked before- couldn't see anything in a quick search. Just racked my second Festival kit (Landlord's) using my autosyphon. With the kit you get a wee bag to go over the end of the syphon to stop too much crud getting sucked up. All good, but the bag gets a build up...

Batch priming Turbo Cider before bottling

Excellent, thanks for that. I like cider fizzy too, so I'll give 230g a go. I like cider on the dry side so I'll probably skip the sweetener this time, but will bear it in mind if the brew comes out with a bit too much bite.

Batch priming Turbo Cider before bottling

Hi, I'm about to get a batch of TC underway, and once it's ready for bottling I'd like to transfer it from the FV to my 'bottling bucket' (is that the correct term- another bucket with a tap and Little Bottler) and batch prime there before bottling. My first kit cider (Black Rock) came out...

    Brewing in the Frozen North

Hello, just joined the forum, which as a lurker I have found very useful. I've only been brewing for a few months and have a lot to learn, but am enjoying the process. I'm just brewing from kits at the moment, but the results have been good. The Woodeford's Admiral's Reserve that was my first...
