Bulldog - Four Finger Jack sugar amount to use?

Ok thanks for that. Last time I did a kit I siphoned my brew into a new fv, added the sugar and stirred then siphoned out into bottles - is that a good way to do it? I've heard of other people using a funnel on each bottle with sugar divided but that sounds like it would take ages for 40 or so...

Bulldog - Four Finger Jack sugar amount to use?

I've got the Bulldog four finger jack craft beer kit and there's no priming sugar included although the instructions say to add some. Have they left it out due to personal preference or does it not entirely require sugar adding? Does anyone know how much sugar I would need? I've done the...

    Best place for all ingredients?

Thanks chaps I'm going to do my 2nd kit for now and investigate my first AG brew in a couple of months time once I get some more equipment for it! I am tempted at going to the brew-school in Bakewell for a day course to pick up some tips

What do you use as a mash tun?

Nice setup Dutto See I would fall at the first hurdle or crimping the ends of the copper pipes and knowing what sort of fittings to buy! :( I would be tempted to buy a custom kit like this but then you end up paying over the odds for someone else's craftsmanship

What do you use as a mash tun?

So I was looking to move on from kit brewing to AG and didn't realise I would now need a mash tun as well as a big stock pot to boil in :( What does everyone use for mashing in? I've seen those large cooler boxes with a tap on that I guess are custom made or done yourself if you trust your...

    Best place for all ingredients?

I've emailed the guys at geterbrewed for some advice on substitutes for some malts and yeast that the dead pony recipe calls for, hopefully they'll get back to me :)

    Best place for all ingredients?

I quite fancy giving this one a try! http://www.geterbrewed.com/grainfather-jacked-up-apa-ingredient-kit/ Would I follow the instructions as best as I can that they have written for the Grainfather? I'm scared of messing up my first AG brew :(

    Best place for all ingredients?

Think I am going to try the brewdog dead pony club but I can never seem to find a website that stocks all ingredients at the same time - Can anyone suggest a good online store or perhaps I should check on ebay? I don't want a huge brew so I'm looking to half all of the recipe as it will be my...

    Brewdog DIY Dog Recipes

Anything like Punk, Dead Pony or Hop Fiction - they all use an insane amount of hops though! How long do you think it any of these would need to ferment? Is there a general rule of thumb or does it depend on the yeast being used?

    Brewdog DIY Dog Recipes

I'm eager to try a Brewdog recipe from the DIY Dog sheet but they never say how long the fermentation stage should take. Has anyone done any of these before? There is a short note about not touching the beer for at least 3 days once the yeast has been added - is this because the recipes use...

    Need a new APA kit

P.s just reading that link now. The pain with home brew is waiting 6 or so weeks until you can taste it. I never thought about doing smaller quantities and experimenting that's a brill idea !! :)

    Need a new APA kit

Good tips thanks guys. The youngs APA sometimes has a dark taste but I am risking pouring more in so likely I am catching more sediment at the bottom which taints the flavour! I ended up getting the bulldog American craft pale ale which I'm going to start soon. Weird thing is that it doesn't...

    Need a new APA kit

I'm half way through my Young's APA kit and need something new to try. Right now I am into my craft beers and hoppy west coast ales - Can anyone suggest something similar to the Young's APA? Thanks!

    Cloudy American IPA?

Thanks for the tips guys. For all i know I might have just pulled a bad bottle from the box, quite unlikely though. I had them boxed and out of sunlight for the carbonation in room temp for 2 weeks which was the best I could do. Then for the next stage they've been in my cold dark...

    Cloudy American IPA?

Umm I may have done actually. In the brown bottles against the light it looked pretty clear lol. When I siphoned it from my fv to bottling bucket I did it through a kitchen sieve and caught tonnes of sediment during that process so was expecting a much clearer beer! I'll wait til Sunday then...

    Cloudy American IPA?

I know I'm ahead of schedule but I've just opened a bottle of my first try at home brew with the Youngs American IPA kit. I'm in the final stage of a 2 week conditioning so the batch was due to be ready this coming Sunday so I've opened a bottle 5-6 days early. It looks really cloudy to...

    Adding priming sugar

Just ordered a few bits from the Balliihoo brew shop on ebay as you get the 5th item free so got my hands on a 23ltr auto siphon. i threw a new bucket in on the deal so I can siphon into that :)

    Adding priming sugar

Thanks matey. I'll either get another fv bucket to siphon into or siphon to my sterilised keg and then siphon into bottles. Is it better to use those auto siphons or the old suck a pipe with tap on the end ones? I guess at this bottling stage it's better to get a no rinse sterilising...

    Adding priming sugar

I'm 8 days into my first ever home brew and guess I'll need to add the hops in a few days and then prime a few days later. Is it possible to add the priming sugar to my fv with the brew in it? Or do I need to pour it all into a newly sterilised bucket and then add the sugar, stir and then...
