    choosing a bench capper

Hi all. Finally getting back into brewing after a hectic few months of moving house. After bottling my first batch of Woodfordes Sundew I have decided that it's time to get a bench capper. My question is which type is the best to go for with my maximum budget of £40? Many of the ones I...

    First brew cloudy

It's leaking from the charging valve on top of the barrel. Either from the pressure relief band or from the joint between the metal valve and the plastic cap. I have stripped the valve and it all looks ok Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    First brew cloudy

Thanks Terrym. Not sure what to do with the seals as they all look ok and are new. If I re-prime could I bottle the beer? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    First brew cloudy

It's the barrel that comes with the 'home brew online' kits. It's not branded. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    First brew cloudy

I've added a bulb of co2, the barrel pressurised, but hisssed from the metal body until all the pressure was gone. Took off the top and checked the bands, all in place, stripped the charging valve and pressure relief band also in place. Put it all back together and still didn't hold pressure...

    First brew cloudy

Just pulled a third pint and the tap stopped flowing. Don't think the keg is holding pressure. Any ideas what to do next? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    First brew cloudy

Hi Hoping for a bit of advice. I have just sampled my first brew, a Wherry kit, and although it tastes ok, it is quite cloudy. Brew went as follows: Made up kit as per instructions, and left in primary for 10 days until it reached a steady 1012. Then transferred to a pressure barrel with...

    Secondary fermentation?

Thanks hoppyland, I was guessing on fermentation being finished in 10 days based on the results I had with the wherry kit I last did. I will check the gravity first before I bottle. The wherry dropped to and stabilised at 1012, is that as low as I can expect the Sundew kit it to go? Hope it is...

    Secondary fermentation?

Thanks Keat64, think I've got it clear in my head now. Good tip on the pressure barrel, wish I'd thought of that when I barrelled my Wherry last week.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Cool box mash tun

Took it apart today, it's got polystyrene insulation slabs about 1/2" thick. Think I will look into upgrading it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Secondary fermentation?

Thanks for the info wfr42, and compliments on your excellent how to. That clears up a lot of confusion, I couldn't understand the need for 2nd fermentation, I can see now it's not needed for a simple kit brew. Will let you know how my bottling goes! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Secondary fermentation?

I currently have a Sundew kit that has been in the fermenter for a week, and was hoping if it's ready to bottle it in the middle of next week. I have a second fermenting bin with a tap and little bottler and I am thinking of siphoning the primary into this, batch priming and bottling. Where I...

    Cool box mash tun

It's got screws in the bottom holding it all together. I will take it apart tomorrow and see if it has any insulation. If not, maybe as suggested a trip to the builders merchant! Hopefully it will work out and will be the first step on my way to AG setup [emoji2][emoji106] Sent from my iPhone...

    Cool box mash tun

I just picked up one of these 52 litre cool boxes from Tesco for £20. Not too impressed to be honest, lid is on a hinge and won't come off, also it doesn't seem to be that well insulated. Not sure what to do, might be taking it back.....

    Hello!

Just a quick hello from me. I have only just started my homebrew adventure after getting a starter kit for my birthday in November. I have already completed a wherry kit which is in the barrel ready for Christmas! (Finding it hard to resist the urge to try it sooner !) I now have a woodfordes...
