I bought one of these and use it as an HLT. It came with a bag and false bottom included so you probably could use for full BIAB process. The temperature reading is pretty accurate and this new version is double-skinned so it should maintain temp pretty well too.
One thing to note (as in the...
I saw a Youtube video where someone "bent" the freezer compartment out of the way. I'll see if I can find it.....
EDIT: Yup, found it.

It's basically the same as the Grainfather, so the mash tun is basically a basket inside the boil kettle. It's like a metal BIAB setup. I mashed (and sparged) according to the Beersmith settings in the opening post.
Yes - grain was fresh and pre-crushed by The Malt Miller.
I'm drinking my first all-grain brew "Bitter to the end". It's a lot better than I thought it was going to be when I tried it a week ago. It's not bad at all at 3 weeks old.
Grain arrived a few days ago from the Malt Miller and I adjusted Beersmith with EBC and potential SG values etc from the Malt Miller website. So I think that should have been OK.
That would make sense - yes. Then it applies your equipments estimated efficiency to calculate your OG I suppose. I'm out for the next couple of days, but after that I shall see what I can learn about how it all works.
You can set the Brewhouse efficiency, but not the Mash efficiency it seems but from what I am reading one does affect the other. I found some forum discussions on the topic which I shall have to read through - which is cool. I want to learn :)
Ha! I just opened another bottle, been in the fridge a few days and it had a head! Not for long like, it was gone in 30 seconds - but I captured the moment for posterity!
For some reason the pint is sideways, but you get the idea!
The grain came pre-crushed from The Malt Miller, so I'm pretty sure it would have been done right (a lot of people swear by them I think).
I can't see anywhere in Beersmith to enter the mash efficiency - it seems to be calculating it somehow (or I'm too much of a noob to figure it out). I...
I've not made any water adjustments to date, and yes I do sparge. I've attached the mash profile I followed today.
I've also attached the Equipment Profile I'm using, which I gather lots of ACE users are having no problems with (I assume it should be the same for everyone?). I'm now wondering...
I've just completed my third ever all-grain brew, all three having been done with an ACE Microbrewery and an irritating pattern is starting to form already.
On all three brews, my pre-boil gravity has been way lower than Beersmith predicted (1.034 v 1.043 today) and consequently my OG is low...
I had a crack at Greg Hughes' "Northern Brown Ale" but despite everything seeming to go smoothly, I was well under my pre-boil SG again :(
I was aiming at 11 litres to the FV and got about 10.8 - so that seemed to work reasonably well - but something is going wrong with my mashes and I haven't...
That's interesting - maybe I didn't cock it up after all! I'm bottling my second brew tomorrow which is from Greg Hughes' "Spring Beer" - so hopefully that'll be a bit better. But I'll start chucking a bit of flaked barley in from now on I think, as I do like a decent head on me beer.
