    Freeze dried fruit powder

Just spotted these on eBay & was wondering if anyone had used them before for wine recipes. Kinda tempted to try but as often the case its better value to buy large quantities so just wondering if it's worth it circa £15 for 200g

Bargains at the cash & carry

Just been to the cash & carry for work & in the clearance section were 2nr 840g tons of dark pitted cherries in light syrup & a 2.8kg tin of solid packed rhubarb. Well it would have been a waste not to grab them as well as some 5lt bottles of water @79p. What would you make with them?

    stereliser & sewage treatment plants

I bet your onions will grow ready pickled! Seriously though that sounds like a challenge to cope with, just out of interest how often do SEPA check your outflow quality?

    stereliser & sewage treatment plants

we used to rent out our house back in Cumbria before we sold it & had to call out a company to clear a drain blockage. Two wheelbarrows of wet / baby wipes were removed from a junction, worst part was he was a flipping plumber

    stereliser & sewage treatment plants

:laugh8: they're known as "grippers" round here for being tight & holding on to their money

    stereliser & sewage treatment plants

Yes, for my sins I am a detectorist when I get the chance. That coin I think is an Edward I penny (long shanks) found near Aberdeen. I've been up here 8 years & still not found a Scottish silver coin yet my detecting buddy back in Cumbria has found two down there in the last couple of years...

    stereliser & sewage treatment plants

Agree with everything in your reply Dutto, we've never had a problem with our plant since installing but our neighbours weren't quite so vigilant about what they put down the system & theirs has had to be de-sludged & re-started repeatedly. Very impressed with the Vortex plant no problems so far...

    Police bikers heading for Cumbria.

Used to be in the fj owners club & quite a few members were high speed pursuit trained police bikers. Great bunch of guys who often trained in the Lakes when we lived there, best bunch of marshals on an organized ride out. Way better riders than those numpty's whose bikes out performed their...

    stereliser & sewage treatment plants

I'm thinking of altering the closest path to the kitchen with paving slabs surrounded with pea gravel. That way when I empty a drum on to the slab it won't wash all the chippings away but will at least keep the moss away. Not risking pouring it into the treatment plant as it will kill off the...

    stereliser & sewage treatment plants

Don't know if any one else has this problem but as we're miles from any main sewage we have a small treatment plant which discharges into a small burn. When we installed it the manual gave a whole list of things that cannot be used including bleach, biological washing powders & pretty much any...

    Local accents.

We moved from Cumbria to Aberdeenshire in 2011 & it was like moving to a foreign country "ya ken fit like". On the plus side all the locals thought a couple from Columbia had bought the village shop so they all came in to meet the foreigners. Worst part is when I go back home & come out with a...

    Cream Stout

Really good, if I paid £5 a pint in Aberdeen I'd be happy with it.

    Cream Stout

Opened the first bottle of my first ever batch of St.Peter's Cream Stout tweaked with a tin of treacle & 200g of lactose powder. I have called this batch "Brace o' Beagles" in honour of two of our girls. Lexie is smooth, refined & absolutely gorgeous, whilst Amie has a nasty habit of sneaking up...

My reds are far too sweet

most of the kits I've done say either below 995 or 994, at which point I usually add the stabiliser. Perhaps a heat pad might help get down to 990. I'll give it a go & thanks for the tip

My reds are far too sweet

I've found beaverdale & Solomon Grundy platinum best. Always take the starting & final gravity but I like to try a bit of variety rather than stick to the same ones. I've just started trying WOW's & that's trial and error (but mainly error). Spent a bit of time last night on the forums reading...

My reds are far too sweet

I've done quite a few kits recently but nearly all of them, except chatuex vue de roi (scuze the spelling) are far too sweet for my liking. I don't want to reduce the sugar & lose the alcohol but is there anything I can add that will give more body and reduce the sweetness. I used to make a lot...

    born again brewer

morning folks & thanks for the add. I used to do a lot of home made fruit wine but following an apple wine incident that nearly brought a ceiling down I kinda got banned from the airing cupboard. Two houses on & I've recently started back with a few kits & building up my equipment again. Looking...
