    Muntons Flagship Hazy IPA

I have this kit on the go at the moment... Starting gravity was 1045 and it bubbled away well for the first couple of days getting down to 1020 quite quickly but since then we're approaching the 3 week mark and it's maybe dropped to 1019. Not sure what's happened but it smells amazing...

    Pasteurised beer in bottles... Nasty..!

Sorry chippy, thought best I do some work today..! In other news though I did speak to St. Austell Brewery today... They confirmed that they do not pasteurise but instead filter... Which ironically the bloke did say can give a similar "cooked" taste to pasteurising! Great hey... He's gonna...

    Pasteurised beer in bottles... Nasty..!

Well this is proving hard work hey! Let's go back to the beginning... It's pasteurising that I have a problem with... Not proper job! This thread will give a little more info if you're interested...

    Pasteurised beer in bottles... Nasty..!

Google! I spent a bit of time looking into it today. I mean to be honest it's does make sense... And with regards to knowing which are pasteurised and which are not you only need to taste them to know... But please if anyone does find non-pasteurised beers on sale please let me know... I'm...

    Pasteurised beer in bottles... Nasty..!

I think you'll probably find this is common practice for most bottled beers... The information is quite easily accessible online...

    Pasteurised beer in bottles... Nasty..!

Yes the yeast you've cultured is added after pasteurising for the bottle conditioning process and apparently it's a generic champagne yeast..? I'm not too knowledgeable on that part of the process if I'm honest but so I'm told this is how they protect it from copy.

    Pasteurised beer in bottles... Nasty..!

Most bottle conditioned beers are pasteurised to kill the yeast so it can't be knicked by anyone! Proper job is for sure...

    Pasteurised beer in bottles... Nasty..!

Yes they probably are unless they state otherwise on the bottles... Most are... Very few don't go through the pasteurisation process... You can taste it a mile off when you become accustomed to the taste...

    Pasteurised beer in bottles... Nasty..!

It is pasteurised I'm afraid... And then bottle conditioned afterwards... Bottle conditioned does not mean unpasteurised.

    Pasteurised beer in bottles... Nasty..!

I never noticed the damage done to good beers in the pasteurising process until I started making my own... In the last month I have had to bin 3 bottles of beer because I now find them undrinkable... Two of which were St. Austell brewery Tribure & Proper Job. Great beers but when bottled...

    What's your favourite brew kit?

Ok some good insight but no clear winner! Thinking the youngs AIPA looks popular so that might well be up next... Currently got a youngs APA conditioning so have to see how that ends up first.

    Bitter taste

I did a wilko lager couple months ago and it's never tasted right... From the early sneaky tastes right up to bottle I opened today... Still got a weird off taste to it... Cooper's lager no problem. Not sure what the deal is with the wilko one.

    What's your favourite brew kit?

Ok let's keep this simple... Nothing to do with personal tastes etc... I wanna know if you had just one last brew kit left in you, which one would you do? And maybe a little explanation of why..? The most popular choice will more than likely be my next brew! Thanks chaps!

thinking about starting home brew - queries

Some of the lager kits are very quick to do... I did a Coopers Aussie lager and it was fermented and bottled in 5 days at 7% ABV..! Completely clear and ready to drink a week after that. Don't get me wrong it tasted better after 2-3 weeks in the bottles but not totally necessary.

    Festival - Golden Stag

So I notice quite a few people raving about this kit... And yes it's not bad but has anyone else brewed the kit and noticed the hop aroma dying off after a few weeks? It was amazing all the way through SF but after a month in the keg there's virtually no sign of it ever been dry hopped and it's...

    Corny Keg or King Keg?

Ah interesting... Yes force carbonation is of interest to me... You make a good point because this is not an option with the plastic PV.

    Corny Keg or King Keg?

I don't doubt your probably absolutely right... I'd just like to know why before I invest!! I don't see the fact that "corny kegs are better" is very convincing! What could be better than a £45 king keg with next to nothing to go wrong... Minimal maintenance... Very low running costs... I...

    Corny Keg or King Keg?

Forgive my ignorance but why would my king keg ever start leaking..? Plus the corny only holds 19ltr so I have to bottle at the same time... I'm sure they're a nice touch but I'm really struggling to see a compelling reason for change...
