    Apple juice...

Hi all. Anyone used Crawford Press cloudy apple juice to make cider? They claim to press whole apples so I’m wondering if I still need to add a bit of wine tannin or tea.

    Scrumpy

I’ve been reading a lot of various threads on here about making some proper old scrumpy and I really want to give it ago sometime. I think I’ve understood the process, just working out the details. If I’m aiming for 10l of scrumpy, roughly what sort of weight of apples am I looking at?

    Stirring the mash

Hi all, Quick question. Do you stir the mash once the grain is mixed in and up to temp? I’ve just got an oatmeal stout mash going in a Klarstein mash kettle and I’m finding conflicting advice. My gut says to stir now and then. Any thoughts?

Treating fruit juice for turbo cider?

My first attempt at a turbo cider gave me a gallon of something nasty. Tasted like old tires. I’m going to give it another go with apple and mango juice. My question is do I need to treat the juice in any way (campden tablet or boiling, etc) or can I just use it straight from the carton?

    Leaky kegs

So I brewed 25l of strong Suffolk ale (festival beer kit). It was my first attempt and so I made a few mistakes and it wasn’t the best beer I’ve ever tasted but I was oddly proud of it and felt that I had achieved something drinkable, even if it wouldn’t have won any awards. I put it in a...

    Tea or not?

I’m going to knock together a quick pineapple and Apple turbo cider (5l demijohn). Having read a few threads on here my chosen recipe is: 2l pineapple juice from concentrate 3l apple juice from concentrate 5g all purpose wine and cider yeast 1tsp yeast nutrient 1tsp pectolase 1 cup of strong...

    Electric kettle or stock pot?

So I want to try an all grain brew using the BIAB method. I’ve read a lot of threads on here and a good guide book so I’m happy I’ve understood the method. Question is, do I start with a 36l induction hob stock pot (found one on eBay for £55) or do I buy an electric temp controlled one for...

    Rookie mistake...

Hi all, Confession time... I recently put together my first beer kit (Festival Old Suffolk Ale) and I had decided to replace the 1kg of dextrose included in the kit with DME. However, when I checked the OG I realised I had added 1.5kg of dark DME giving me an OG of 1.080 :tinhat: . I didn’t want...

    New to brewing...

Hi all, Can I get a few opinions on the best brew kits for strong, dark beers? I have got a Festival kit on the go and I would like to progress to all grain mash brewing but I feel the need to build up to that with a few kits.

    Foaming through the airlock

Hi all, I’m new to home brewing and I’ve just got a Festival Suffolk ale kit started yesterday. When I checked it today I’ve have foam coming through the airlock. Is it normal for it to be so lively and should I be worried about it?
