    Clear Beer

Time clears most beers - cold helps. Even if you don't have a fridge putting the beer on a cold concrete floor or outside at the right time of year will help. You could also try using a high flocculation yeast - that's one that clumps together and settles well.

    Induction hob

I used a 100 litre pot on a Buffalo - it did overhang, didn't have any problems apart from it being slow to get to the boil with 70l of wort. I now use it with the pot across 2 Buffalo hobs and have had no problems with this either - works really well - can put 6Kw into it to get to boil then...

    Nhs

Staff brilliant, treatment brilliant - care not always great. I've had 2 relatives have extended stays in hospital in the last few years and they although they got very high level treatment, they didn't get particularly good care. Personally I'd blame staffing levels for this but there might be...

Where to brew a lager!? (temperature trouble)

Clever looking bit of kit but it only cools, OK in the house but if you're looking to brew in the garage year round it's no use.

Where to brew a lager!? (temperature trouble)

as said you need an STC-1000, a fridge or freezer and a tube heater (or some other source of heat but the tube heater is imho the best option). STC-1000 gets built into an enclosure with 2 plugs - you could buy one from here but it's obviously a lot cheaper to build your own - plenty of...

Turn a King Keg into a Cornie???

There is a member on 2 other UK forums selling used polykegs, as discussed in this thread for £5 each. These are intended as a one way disposable product for the trade, but he's made them so they can be reused. To me these are a much better solution than trying to convert a king keg. They'll...

    Racking / lagering confusion???

Using the PB's as a lagering vessel is fine, but at the end of lagering you really want to be transferring off the sediment tat formed during lagering. One of the things that happens during lagering is that chill haze forms and then settles out giving you a beer that stays clear when chilled...

    Racking / lagering confusion???

Sounds like you're confusing lagering and conditioning. The lager I'm drinking now was fermented at 12C, then raised to 18C for 3 days for a Diacetyl rest. Then it was lagered - an extended period of cold storage that gives lager its name. It was transferred into a secondary and lagered...

How to make yeast stick to the bottom a bottle conditioned beer

I think you're already thinking along the right lines 1. Yes, some yeast strains settle better than others. Of the ones I've used Fuller's yeast (from their bottle conditioned Bengal Lancer) is very good at sticking to the bottle and Nottingham is good. US-05 is good for keeping hop flavour but...

    Clearing Problems

You can leave it in primary too long but 3 or 4 weeks is fine Try cooling to help the brew clear. If you have temp control you can crash chill, I usually give my brews a week at 2 degrees. If you can't do this moving to a cold concrete floor can help

    Fermentation temperature control

It depends on the ambient temp where you're brewing. If you're brewing in the house then yes, you'd need cooling. If (like me) you're brewing in the garage then a fridge, with a heater inside controlled by a temp controller allows for cooling in summer and heating in winter (or maybe cooling...

    Hello from a Hedgerow

No problem with discussing flavoured shop bought spirits, it would only be if you were distilling the spirits yourself that there'd be a problem WOW= Wurzels Orange Wine

    buffalo boiler problem

I tried taping it out of the way and it went completely dead part way through the boil because the thermal fuse had blown (Hidden under a white woven cover) The thermal fuse was bypassed with a decent connector block so rather than have no protection I replaced the 125C thermal cut out with a...

    New to homebrew

No there should be enough pressure inside the barrel from the secondary ferment to dispense at least half of the barrel a pint at a time - this is how your pressure barrel is intended to be used. This keeps your beer under a layer of CO2 which keeps it 'fresh'. As soon as you crack the lid or it...

    STC-1000

I'm not an electrician either but I think watts/volts=amps so 2400/230=10.4 amps not looking good for the STC:-(
  20. Dave1970

    STC-1000

It's not quite as simple as that, the STC only switches up to 10 amps and it's likely your HLT will draw more current than that. You need to fit a relay, the STC switches the relay and the relay switches the mains
