First Partial Extract Brewday - Badger Golden Glory

Cheers pittsy  I can tell already that this style of brewing is going to be addictive trying out all the different grains etc. After writing the report and mulling over the day I will definitely be doing a few things differently even if I do the Golden Glory kit again. I think once...

First Partial Extract Brewday - Badger Golden Glory

Hey folks, well yesterday was fun as I did my very first extract brew which I am going to refer to as EB01. I'd bought a cheap 15ltr stainless steel stock pot from the bay-of-e about a month ago along with a couple of EB kits from BrewUK. Id also bought the new book Home Brew Beer by Greg...

Quick Q re Tweaked Coopers APA and fermentation

I made a hop tea using the last 1/3rd of a pack of amarillo hops, 500g of medium dry malt extract and 700g of dextrose. I also replaced the yeast with Nottingham which I will now be using as my standard yeast. However, it's been 2 weeks and 5 days since I FV'd this and the airlock is still...

Home brew beer by Greg Hughes

Just ordered a copy via mm707's link. Cheaper than Amazon even with added 1st class delivery

    Coopers Aussie pale ale

If you've thoroughly mixed all the ingredients as per the instructions there should not be any sign of initial settling of sediment. Did you just use the liquid malt extract or did you add any additional fermentables such as dry malt extract and/or brewing sugars such as dextrose or brew...

Taking it to the next level

Thanks for the encouraging words Andy and Fil. I've procrastinated over where my brewing was going to go and as space and time are limited I can't go AG just yet. I decided on PE as it doesn't require much more equipment than I already have and the results are a significant step up from kits...

Taking it to the next level

Hi guys, I've been pretty quiet on here recently due to work and other home stuff taking priorities! Not that the brewing has suffered I just haven't had time to write up any brew day reports and take the photos. I've probably done another 6 kit brews since my last post but things are...

RickBuck Brewery - Coopers Brewmaster IPA Tweaked (pics)

The hops were £4.50 from here http://www.the-home-brew-shop.co.uk/aca ... acked.html Apparently they do an excellent delivery service if you want to order from them.

RickBuck Brewery - Coopers Brewmaster IPA Tweaked (pics)

Update - this has been bubbling away furiously for the last few days. Not much was happening re the airlock on the first 2 days at it turned out I had a small leak around the hole I'd made for the aquarium heater. Extra PTFE tape was deployed which fixed the problem but it reminded me that I...

RickBuck Brewery - Coopers Brewmaster IPA Tweaked (pics)

Well, it's been a few weeks since I did any brewing so it was about time I filled an FV. Considering it's a Bank Holiday Weekend, it would have been rude not to do a brew  I'd been reading THBF and watching a lot on Youtube, Craigtube in particular so I was well prepared for yesterdays...

RickBuck Brewery - Woodfordes Wherry (again)

Update - Tried a bottle of this last night and I have to say that it's possibly my best brew to date. Opening the bottle gives a pleasant hiss and a nice dense "smoke" from the top of the bottle. When poured it's crystal clear and gives a nice thick tall head. As you drink the head stays...

    Number 2 fingers crossed

AS said by others, try to get your temp down to 20C or 22C at the most. As for the airlock don't worry too much about the froth and liquid, just make sure to top up the airlock with some water. Oh, and clean the lid of any residue otherwise it will attract fruit flies which you definitely...

Pale Ale for The Spring Thing

Looking good and a nice simple setup you've got there. Be careful with those clear plastic carboy FV's (green handles shown in one of your pics). Get the water too hot and they melt/warp like you wouldn't believe!

RickBuck Brewery - Muntons Premium Gold Midas Touch

calumscott, yes the bottles will indeed need sterilising again. I forgot I'd lent out my new capper to a mate to try so the star-san will have to be deployed again on bottling day.

RickBuck Brewery - Woodfordes Wherry (again)

Moved the two crates into the cold this weekend just gone. I checked them on Wednesday and noticed sediment hanging in suspension and they were in a particularly cold part of the dining room. I decided to move them to a warmer part and when I checked on them Saturday morning they had settled...

RickBuck Brewery - Muntons Premium Gold Midas Touch

Update - Transferred this to FV2 over the weekend just gone. I also cleaned and sterilised another 40 glass bottles in readiness for bottling. I really need to get one of those bottle trees as the Mrs wasn't too impressed to see the majority of kitchen countertop covered in bottles! It...

RickBuck Brewery - Cooper's Aus Pale Ale Tweaked

Saturday was a busy day with lots of cooking but I managed to squeeze in some brewing. I'd transferred my Munton's Gold Midas Touch to FV2 and had just finished cleaning and sanitising when I couldn't bring myself to leave and empty FV. I had a quick check of my supplies and found the Coopers...

RickBuck Brewery - St Peters Golden Ale

Had a couple of test pints of this last night and no headaches :thumb: The taste/flavour has improved greatly since I last tried this so I gave the keg a blast of Co2, wrapped it in an old dark towel and will leave this for as long as I can. Reason for the towel is the keg is being kept in the...

    Just put a wherry on

andyhull, pretty much yes. My FV took 4x5ltr of mineral water and it was pretty much bang on the 20ltr mark. Certainly not out by a significant margine. I drink my first WW pretty young and it was from a keg and slightly under primed for my palette.

    Just put a wherry on

Good choice and I'll be interested to hear the results of your addition of the light malt extract. When I brewed my first WW I brewed it as per the directions and when it came to drinking it I did find it a little watery and lacking body. My second WW brew was bottled this weekend just gone...
