    My favourite wine recipe is 1l red grape juice, 1l pineapple juice and 900gm sugar Makes a lovely crisp rose style wine with quite a kick I have found that aldi have stopped selling the RGJ, any ideas where I can get it?

    Mold on homebrew

    I have had the same with two batches of rhubarb, left the fruit in the bucket for longer than the usual 3 days and hadn't added a tablet, took the lumps off, added a tablet to each batch and carried on and all seems to be bubbling away fine now (left the mix 24 hours before adding the yeast)

    Top tip (learnt from own mistake), never add the sugar to a near boiling ribena mixture, you will understand the meaning of the word nucleation, it isnt good and involves a lot of clearing up!!!

    Thanks for the reply, so just use the tins to fill up a demijohn and strain to remove crystals? No need for water, sugar or tannin? Just nutrient and yeast and I will get a wine from it?

    Forgot to rinse out VWP. Should I jettison and start again.

    I have always thought the same about VWP, swear by it as a cleaner but always worried what would be the effect if I didnt rinse enough, I tend to wash out each bottle 3 times after sterilising, is this too much?

    Yes i boiled it for a good time to get rid of the preservatives and I tend to calculate how much sugar in at start and then leave till it stops, We like our wine dry so I dont tend to bother checking it, but if I need to know how much alcohol then I will check FG.     I started a ribena concentrate wine just under 2 months ago and am still getting airlock activity about every 3 seconds!! Patience is really the key with this wine, did it last year and left it about 7 months before drinking and it was lovely!!

    Airlock heads up!

    I also leave mine in, used to take them out each time but then realised it wasn't necessary. After use I give them a good run through on the head of the tap with hot water and then leave to dry, before use the same and sterilise if they have had anything nasty on them, no issues so far!!

    Doesn't seem like a lot of bananas to be, also be prepared for a terrible smell of boiling bananas!!
