What temp to condition at following Cold Crash?

Hi I've just bottled a Belgian Witbier. The recipe said to cold crash to 5C for the last 3 days of fermentation, which I've done. Having now bottled the beer though, do I condition as I normally would at about 20C or do I condition at 5C? Any guidance would be appreciated. Cheers

    Frozen hops defrosted!

Just got home from a lovely week in the West Country only to find the power had tripped out about 5 days ago. I had hops in the freezer - question is, can they be frozen again? cheers

    Pilsner Fermentation (or lack of?)

I brewed a Pilsner two days ago for the first time. Following a recipe, I pitched Wyeast Pilsen Lager 2007 and started in the fermentator at 10C. Yesterday morning it was just about bubbling - a small bubble about every 45 seconds or so, by yesterday evening it had stopped and today nothing's...

    Dirty bottles!

I bought a load of crates with bottles from Facebook Marketplace. The bottles hadn’t been rinsed before they were put back in the crate and it looks like they’ve sat around for 12 months or more. The slightly scary black gunge at the bottom of the bottles does not want to shift. I’ve soaked...

    Hopstands

I'm gonna be honest, as a newbie I don't really understand Hopstands. I've been scared off of a few recipes because I don't know what to do. I assume you drop the temperature to the hopstand temperature in the recipe, add the hops for the allotted time, and then continue to chill. Question is...

    Mash Out

I have a recipe that says mash at 68 degrees for 60 minutes and then mash out at 75 degrees for 10 minutes. (i.e. 70 minutes mash time). How do I account for the fact that it’ll probably take 7 or 8 minutes to get up to 75 degrees. Do I include those 7 minutes as part of the 10 or turn the heat...

    Cleaning.

Newbie question I'm afraid, so brace yourself!! Just transferred my third batch from the FV. The previous two times I've cleaned the FV with Stellarclean PBW which I've been using for the brewing equipment. Today it dawned on me this might not be necessary (and might be a waster of money). So...

Taking a reading from the FV

So my first two brews are both fermenting and things seem to be progressing well. Having done some reading I gather the best way to tell if the fermentation has finished is to take a reading and then take another a couple of days later and if it's the same then I'm good to bottle. However, I've...

    Low Pre-boil OG

I’m attempting to brew a Mild that indicates it’ll end up at 3.8% I’ve just taken the pre boil OG and it’s only 1.015 whilst the recipe says 1.034. Anything I can do to get it back on track? cheers

    I've broken my brewing virginity!

First ever brew today, doing a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, recipe said Pre-Boil Gravity 1050, refractometer showed 1049 so I was happy. It all seemed to be going so well..... When I went to read the OG, which recipe states as 1056, the refractometer, despite numerous attempts, wasn't having it, it...

Chemsan/Starsan - how long is it good for?

Newbie, so apologies in advance! I’m sure I read somewhere that when you make up starsan you can keep it and re-use it. Is this correct and, if so, how long can it be kept for/how many times can it be re-used? thanks

Confused newbie - when to add hops!

Hi all, I am a complete newbie and planning my first brew. Apologies in advance for this, the first in a series of stupid questions! I'm hoping to brew a Sierra Nevada PA recipe on Brewfather. It has a 60 min boil. The recipe states to add 4.4g each of Magnum and Perle at 60 mins - I assume...
