I'm going Sober for October - Anyone Else?

No dry October for me. Getting married in 3 days so will need all the alcohol to numb that one......

£58 for the brewday!!? .......Lets adjust that recipe. Thoughts on adjustments?

Thanks all for ongoing advice. Turned out at 8.3% with a decent enough head retention. Good hop bitterness but less on the smell and taste front. Happy with it though. Called it 'Forlorn Hop' in honour of last 3 failures that came before it 😀

Yeah, I tend to aim closer to £1.50 a bottle if I can

    Hopsteep Brewing

Great, thanks. Modified a cooking pot to add the ball valve which has helped. I use a large muslin drawstring bag and a pack of bulldog clips to hold out the pot to drain. Will look at the stronger bags. Space is an issue for me until we extend. Need a garage!

Great, thanks. Building extension soon so this will do for that. I don't freeze malt, just hops.

Good idea. Mrs will have a fit though if I'm finding space to store kgs of grain. Half a freezer shelf already has hops in it

    Hopsteep Brewing

Yep, does. Very nice kit. I'm thinking of upgrading. Have modified a 30l pot to add a ball valve lever which is great for brew days. I still use the plastic tubs as a FV on a Mangrove Jack heat plate. So, upgrade to all in one brew kit? Or upgrade to a posher temp controlled FV? Both around...

    Hopsteep Brewing

Looks like a great location and setup. Noob question. Can somebody describe the kit setup? At a guess I've got as far as brew kettle, sparg kettle, why duel pump? And don't know the kettle on left

To bottle or not too bottle? 🤔

Thanks. Yeah was confusing. No change to gravity points after a week. 4 days inactivity so tried ideas. I had agitated the cake, pitched a Nottingham yeast starter to kickstart, neither helped. Will put it down to experience

To bottle or not too bottle? 🤔

Thanks. I would say I underpitched. I used 1 x pack of liquid yeast. Think it should of been 2. As I said, still learning and it was my own recipe. Half the fun is in the trial and error. My beer hasn't killed anybody yet, so winning so far

And to be clear, it didnt taste awful. They were all gushers and alot of unfermented sugars still in there (high FG). No krausen in FV and i think i underpitched.

UPDATE: Was as successful as Boris Johnsons make up and hair team. A very frothy drain pour.

Hi all, Brewday yesterday and decided to go for a double IPA based on Pliny the Elder. Yes, i know. I have less than 1 years experience and will likely end up tasting like a drip tray. Alas....i priced it up on The Malt Miller website. (btw...i would love to support LHBS but i am in Chester and...

    Cummings testimony

It's always interesting reading conversations between people with different political views. There is always a hefty dollop of confirmation bias on both sides. Do we not think the political system is unworkable? Always at the mercy of finances? Cummings interviews show how media and spin is...

I have gone and done it

I'm still bottle conditioning but after recent efforts more akin with Lewis Hamilton celebrating at Monaco I'll be soon looking closer at kegging.
